Kammerflimmer Kollektief
I just happened upon them while wandering the halls at emusic. Odd stuff. Avant guard jazz and ambient electronics, peaceful music killing time on the same back porch as a frenetic saxophone. I'm really not sure what to make of them. Kind of that same Norwegian jazz sound that I like in Klabbes Bank or Portico Quartet a little bit (though they might not be from Norway). Here's some youtube videos that have complete songs from the album "Absencen", which is the one I downloaded...

"Absencen"
A startlingly evocative album.

It's tough to remember the trail I took to get to Kammerflimmer, but I think it passed through Efterklang. Maybe they were on the same List or something. Efterklang is a good rec. I haven't decided which album I'm gonna get yet. I was leaning towards Parades, but that live recording they did with the Danish Orchestra sounded real nice too. And now today, their myspace page says they have a new album out now (can't remember what it's called). Some albums in my SFL bucket are there because I do intend to download them soon and others are there just as a reminder of albums I thought were interesting and would like to revisit one day down the road; Efterklang is definitely categorized with the former. Very intriguing stuff.
Thanks for the rec. The fact that I was already sniffing them out is pretty much irrelevant. It's recs like that are why sites like this and others I'm on are so invaluable. The Efterklang rec, to me, simply tells me that you're someone to bug for recs from time to time, 'cause I know there are other K.K.'s and Efters out there.
Cheers.
I downloaded their catalogue a couple of years ago, and all of their albums are amazing ! - including Cicadidae from 2003 that unfortunately is no longer available at eMu.
Of the remix EP's I've only got Part 1 and it's only the Jan Jelinek mix that I like.
They have a new one out on Staubgold: Dietmar Dath & Kammerflimmer Kollektief: Im erwachten Garten (not yet at eMu) that appears to be soundscapes to a German poet's recital.
- Given the brilliance of their back catalogue, this is a must have.
I do to some extend agree with the Efterklang comparison, but KK IS totally unique.
Another one in the same vein as KK is The Headlight Serenade by Triosk
I've also forgotten how I came about them in the first place, but it could very well be the name itself.
- Absencen is a good place to start.
Here's a link to their site...

Very cool. I was hoping for a free listen at Lala, but nothing showing up yet, nor on Lastfm, nor on youtube. Just the two tracks on their website. I really love Absencen, but based on other albums of theirs, I'll be damned if I spend money on Wildling just to perpetually shout at my stereo, "Will you please STFU with that chanting already". I figure if I'm patient enough, some kind soul will upload them to youtube and I can listen for myself. I really really want to like it, y'know?
On a related note, we were listening to Absencen in the car, and my wife, who's kinda ambivalent about the album, when I told her that K.K.'s preferred attire seems to be the same as Kiss's, she stated that it made her like K.K. a whole lot. I have nothing more to add to that anecdote.
Thanks for that. I'll be giving it a listen tonight or tomorrow. Really interested to hear how their sound translates to a live setting.
