One of my music related ones is to burn all the cds I've downloaded, stick them in slim jewel cases, print out some covers, and store them in decorative shoe boxes (maybe tape cool album covers or impressionist paintings around the shoe box, like some first grader's arts & crafts assignment). I made a big push on that yesterday. Got maybe forty or so done, add that to the twenty I had done last week, I'll have this resolution knocked off before March rolls around.
It's kinda cool to see them lined up in their box, all cool with their covers. I still miss the lack of liner notes and session photos that come with a brick & mortar album purchase, but this does bring some of the personality back to the mp3 medium for me by doing this.
I have most of my mp3s archived as data CDs, did have then in slim jewel cases, but they began to overflow/overtake the space allotted. Just like all my books. I've been slowly weeding out the books. I bought A CD Lodgic case and oh, so slowly, I'm moving the CDs to the case. Those jewel cases take up a lot of space.
Archiving data I want to keep, whether mp3, jpg, doc, or whatever is something I need to do more frequently. It's time to clear some space on my hard drive.
I went with paper sleeves for data CD's. They are even thinner, and fit in the same CD Storage units. I catalog the Data discs and then write on the paper sleeve (Jazz DVD 01, etc). My vast collection of Bob Dylan concerts are in CD-Logic (generic) sleeves with paper labels for set lists and recording info. That takes up 9 10 3-foot 10 shelves.
I used to try to burn everything to CD until 2009 when the confluence of the Sony Drop/BB booster crack cards/Amie St. and Amazon freebies just overwhelmed me, and they were getting out of hand anyway. I burn backup DVDs now, but I still like having albums I'm fond of burnt to CD. I wait to get the 100 pack slim jewel case boxes on sale at Staples, and the nice handled box they come in serves as a dandy storage unit after the fact, and paper sleeves will do nicely for the stuff you might not have in serious rotation. Part of my resolution to do more listening is to burn and print covers for my favorite stuff from last year, not to mention the current influx.
Yeah, I'm with ya BigD. Screw those paper sleeves and friggin's dewey decimal system cataloging b.s.; I wanna see some photos and hear the tap of jewel cases as I flip through them. Did I mention the decorative shoe box? Picture coming soon.
Count me among those for whom my music isn't real until it's on CD. Browsing Winamp vs. gazing fondly at a wall full of shelves filled to the brim? No contest.
Plus, when attacked by lions, you can't use an iPod to reflect the sun into their eyes and then break it in half and use to slash wildly at them
You guys are funny. Hmmm. iTunes wrecked the burner on the downstairs PC. Well, not wrecked, exactly .... merely rendered it useless at any version above itunes 7.2. So badly that even Nero wouldn't work unless I downgraded itunes.
There IS something to be said for having known good physical backups! Some of my songs have started skipping and I need to re-rip them.

That's a ridiculous premise. If you took the sensible precaution of creating a mobile fort of jewel cases (pointy side facing out) in a five foot perimeter around yourself, you wouldn't end up in the position of having to defend yourself from the lion in hand-to-paw combat.
I was just thinking about how much money I spend on music compared to how much I used to spend on smoking. I spend a lot on music. I used to spend way more on smoking. In the mid-2000's my wife and I were probably at $5-$7 a day. No way I spend that much on music. (and she doesn't spend anything on music.) The other day I pulled into a gas station and noticed a sign that said $9+ per pack; and that was a sale! Not that that would have made me quit. When you smoke, you can always find more money for cigs. I just wish I'd had the foresight to get my smoking budget converted into my music budget. Probably too late now.

Because the pipe makes it less likely you'll get a spark in that gallon of 190 proof on your shoulder and, like, cease to exist.
