Billy Higgins
About a month ago, several Billy Higgins albums appeared on emusic. I was pretty sure I mentioned it here, but I can't find anything on it, so here goes...

All three are excellent, two of the three are five and six dls respectively, and the one that suffers from album pricing is not exactly a rip-off with 9 tracks costing 12 dls for an hour and eleven minutes of solid music.
My favorite of the group is "Mr. Billy Higgins", which has a cover of Bill Lee's excellent song "John Coltrane", one of the most haunting tunes ever written. Billy's version doesn't quite hit the ominous notes that Clifford Jordan's version does on "Night of the Mark VII" (nee "Highest Mountain" on Muse), which Billy also plays on, but it's still a great listen.
Billy's work under his own name, I think, is quite different than his more familiar studio work for other musicians on the Blue Note label. I mean this in a good way, and this comes from someone who enjoys his Blue Note sideman work.

Down the "appears on" list, I re-found one I'd been meaning to check out: http://www.emusic.com/album/Charlie-Haden-The-Private-Collection-MP3-Download/11220438.html Two live discs with Charlie Haden, Jim Broadbent, and Ernie Watts plus Higgins or Paul Motian. Looks fun, anyone heard it?
