Quick question about Amie recs and cashing out

edited April 2010 in General
I've only cashed out one or two albums on Amie and that was a while ago. I read through their help screen. I still have a question.
How do cashing out recs work?

Here's the deal. I thought when you submitted your rec, it registers a "base price". The difference between the base price per track and the current price per track (when cashing out) would be the amount of money your account is credited. That's how I remember it working before.

The thing is, I have at least two albums that it's only giving me HALF of the difference between those two prices. Other albums eligible to cash recs in for does the entire spread, but these (at least) two albums do not; they do half. One is Grizzly Bear "Yellow House" and the other is the new Apples in Stereo album which got pulled. I think there was one or two others that was doing the half-thing, too, but I forget.

1.) Is this a problem or do some albums work that way?

2.) Do I draw attention to the fact that I can cash any recs out at all on the Apples album considering it's since been pulled from Amie (probably never should've been up in the first place)?

Advice from the Amie vets would be appreciated.

  • If you REC a track when it is free you get the full price increase. If it is no longer free you only get $0.01 for every $0.02 that the track increases in price. That's why it is so good to REC something that is still free.

As for the Apples album. The album will almost certainly be readded on its official release date, so I wouldn't worry about it.

  • Hey, thanks. I didn't know that about the free not-free thing.
  • yeah, like he said.

I asked Amie about the album, which I bought but didn't have a chance to download before they pulled it. They said it would be reposted on the release date. They also refunded me my money plus about $2 extra and invited me to download it for free when it reappears. If you can refrain from cashing out the Apples RECs, I would do so, since the album is sure to climb to 98 cents a track within a few days.

You were right. I stopped by Amie the other day and the price was maxed out. I picked up about .45 per track on top of getting the album for free. Now I get to spend that extra cash on bands I just wanna take a chance on.
