Down the beach at Lorne, enjoying the Australian summer!
Just bought an original 1969 pressing of the album “The Live Adventures of Michael Bloomfield and Al Kooper” in one of the local shops. I think that this album together with its studio prequel “Super Session”, are close to the best of the late 1960s Blues Rock albums.
Amazing that it was only last year that Al Kooper was finally inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame together with, funnily enough, Elton’s chum Bernie Taupin.
AMG says “One of the seminal live albums of the late '60s, Live Adventures of Al Kooper & Mike Bloomfield was a natural, organic offshoot of the hugely successful Super Session album from 1968, which contained performances by both of these groundbreaking musicians, as well as Stephen Stills. The idea of musical spontaneity both in live performance and in the recording studio had reached a certain apex in 1968, and spontaneous excursions by musicians such as Jimi Hendrix, Steve Winwood, and the Southern California musical covenant that eventually became Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, as well as a host of others, were indeed a sign of the times. But it was the union of Bloomfield and Kooper that can truly claim an origination of the phenomenon, and this album takes it to another level entirely.”
Chilly morning here at -36C with a wind chill of -44C. Good day to lounge around and stay warm. ^^^I'll think about those bears and @peterfrederics' summer at the beach to warm things up. Joe McPhee
When we had our little store and that Coleman box came out, I ordered about a dozen of them. I knew about it coming out before the date and I already had pre-orders for it. The local "Sound Warehouse" (remember them?) couldn't sell hardly any of them, but one month after it's release we had sold over 2 dozen. We had good customers.
Wow! still catching up. As I go through my rather pitiful vinyl Jazz section, I'm reminded how much great music there is yet to be heard. I'm really grateful to have had the chance to listen to some of his catalogue so far, most for the first time. With my retirement budget I could never afford to purchase these and I do feel somewhat guilty that in my dotage I now rely on the archives, nyop and YouTube to fill in the blanks.
From Ye Famous Nurse With Wound list. The first alum by this band, Diumenge. Not at all frightening - jazz rock a la mid-period Soft Machine. It's on Daily Motion but apparently I have an add blocker on my machine that prevents me giving you the link. There is apparently a website called "Best Ever Albums" which rates this album as 97,203 all-time! Well it made me laugh.

I remember this band from high school days. I’ve got an ad blocker as well and can’t watch it, but here’s the link for those of you who don’t have a blocker.

Their latest release on Lost Tribe Sound. Ambient noodling that has a certain appeal, though it's when the music gets cohesive and a defined structure is when I like them best. I probably only encounter a track like that once or twice on each recording.

Strangely the Daily Motion link came up as I clicked on what was supposed to be YouTube - otherwise I'd have posted it. Ah well. thanks again.
