Initial thoughts:
- I like the Caribou pick. Not my #1, but definitely a top 5 for me.
- Glad to see some love for Tame Impala (discovered here!), The Black Keys and Glasser (though way too low).
- Seriously shocked at Sufjan being that low.
- I like Gold Panda, but think they'll be trying to figure out why they put it in the top ten a year from now.
- Salem? Seriously?
- Swing and a miss on Marco Benevento, Bibi Tanga, Fang Island, and Jamie Lidell.

    Far out. My retro old fart cred is untarnished. If I have any of these I got them on Amie for free, and they are now somewhere on the hard drive at home. If they'd added The New Pornographers it would have spoiled my no hitter.

    BigD-Bluez: my retro old fart self is still trying to figure out the lyrics to Clash songs from 1978. Any similar multi-decade obsessions?

    I own 12; #'s 13, 15, 18, 21, 36, 41 (unfortunately), 46, 48 (I haven't actually listened to it yet), 57, 64, 65, 80.

    I trust no list missing Janelle Monae. (Well ok, no list 100 items long from a store or blog - I don't expect her to be in everyone's personal top 10 - people are only human after all).

    I'm currently obsessed with NWOBHM - well, not exactly new anymore. It's fulfilling a need for new areas for me, because I just don't like the guitar tones and cookie monster vocals of a lot of modern metal. Michael Schenker era live UFO also.

    I have 17 of them, and like I said on the eMu thread, any top 100 that doesn't include Owen Pallett or Titus Andronicus is wrong.

    @Craig - Good call on Owen Pallett.

    I think it's a bad idea to do 100 for a year. It makes it seem much more "all encompassing" but there will still be too many albums missed. If you do a top 10 or 20 or even 50 there's much more room for someone to shrug off snubs.

    @BN - Definitely get the Flying Lotus. Been playing that a bunch in my car this week - awesome!

    any list out prior to the release of kanye's disc is a list out too soon.

    the gil-scott heron is a damn fine album, i'll say that. me and the devil is jawdropping, and kind of dubstep-y (as is much of the disc).

    I surprised myself by having ten on the list! At least two others I'd like, but have never been able to download because they are on Domino, which we could never get in the UK from emusic, even before their recent removal. The Villagers, for example, is £7.99 on itunes (around $10.60) and there were always other prioriites when I came to actually getting my credt card out. But I will try out a few more from the list. My particular favourite from the 100 is Stornoway, but I have always liked Belle and Sebastain from pre download days.

    The Piccadilly Records 100 is up too.

    For those surprised at the low or non appearance of some albums in the rough trade list above, don't forget they're a very UK centric hipster-indie type of set-up.
    Piccadilly too, although a bit less hipstery.

    I'd guess Janelle Monae and Kanye would have been far too mainstream for either to even consider, likewise Spoon and The New Pornographers, although those weren't big hits over here anyway, and if it wasn't for you lot (including some on emu) I'd never have heard of Owen Pallett or Titus Andronicus so I'm not at all surprised they aren't on the charts.
    I'm sure when some the US lists turn up they'll be much more prominent.

    I have a decent number from the Rough Trade. Thinking about my own list and this year, I would put that Midlake album at the bottom or take it off all together. Their first two albums are wondeful, but the Courage of Others is just ho hum. If nothing else, the Age of Adz should be way above it.

    I have thirteen of those, but my eventual 1 and 2, probably, are not on their list at all, my 3 is about a third of the way down, and lots of others on my list aren't there, either. I guess I'm not a UK centric hipster-indie. Paul Weller and Robert Plant are UK, but I suppose they're too old now to be hipsters. I was looking forward to the John Grant, but I found it to be only partially satisfying. I agree about Sufjan being too low, and I think Beach House is way too high. I was unable to listen to Sleigh Bells all the way through once, but I suppose I'll try again. I'll have to try to find that Caribou somewhere. Gil Scott-Heron was a favorite of mine 40 years ago, so it'd be interesting to hear what he's up to now.

    i love the gil scott-heron album, and i haven't been much of a fan of his in the past. that and the grinderman disc hover close to the top of my year-end list, too (probably nos. 3 -- 2, in that order). it's kind of fascinating, since both discs are -- in very separate ways -- reactions to, and bristling against the notion of, getting older, instrumentally and/or lyrically.

    I own three on the Rough Trade list (Arcade Fire, Danger Mouse & Sparklehorse, and Field Music). Liked Field Music, wasn't overly impressed with Dark Night of the Soul but need to give it a couple more listens. Haven't listened to Arcade Fire yet but just picked it up at Amazon recently. Of the others, I own older records from a few (Black Keys, LCD Soundsystem, Eno, and I guess Edwyn Collins if Orange Juice counts). Do I qualify as a retro old fart? I'd like that.
