So I have such a random collection of electronic music, which isn't all bad, but it means I don't have a great idea of where to go next. I'm listening to Grey Area's And Then the Clouds that is labeled as dub at least on last.fm. Is that ambient-ish or something else?  Any suggestions of other ambient music to check out?

Ambient dub would be a good approximation.
Actually, that album is on a label called Waveform
that I have fond memories of from the mid-90s.
Somehow, I was able to get, what was then, their
complete discography - about 12 to 15 titles,
I think at a discount rate (actual CDs, before
digital downloading, etc.) and was really
impressed with what I heard. They were relaxing
without being cheezy new-age ambient. A few
good compilations are available from them if you
want to explore further. I'll have to listen again
to see if I feel the same way, but I'm thinking: "yes!"

I just remembered that I still have their "zerO One" t-shirt!

Also, a nice, believe it or not, album of Christmas music
was released near the turn of the century called Cheery.

Well, how long do you have :-)

In the loose sonic vicinity of the album you mentioned, I like:

krill.minima - Sekundenschlaf (and there used to be various free netlabel releases around, not sure if they are all still there)
    Pole (the 1, 2, 3 albums)
Deadbeat (lots of albums, I like Wild Life Documentaries, Journeyman's Annual, and New World Observer)
Evan Marc - Dreamtime Submersibles is excellent.
    SeverenceHidden Ceilings

    You could also try:
    Carbon Based Lifeforms
    Circular
    early Loscil
    Mind over Midi - Polyphony
    James Place - Voices Bloom
The Sight Below (last three are more ambient techno really)

  • Wasn't sure where to put this post, so I chose this thread.

I got this album sent me in a digital promo.  Not really in my site's wheelhouse.  More of an ambient drone kind of thing.  But it does have its moments, and it's NYP, and I thought maybe some of you might dig it.

    Northwest - "I"

You should also check out their site.  In addition to a cool video, they've got a manifesto thing going on, too.

    It's on Bandcamp...

I didn't spend much time listening to it.  I'm way backlogged on listening as it is.  But there was enough interesting stuff in what I did hear that I also didn't want to just walk past it without maybe letting someone(s) else know it's out there.
  • Thanks Jonah, looking forward to hearing this
