  • I am obsessing over the new Fiona Apple record. The last album I listened to this much within the first few days was The Bends, a looong time ago.
  • @ScissorMan, I feel the same way about Adam Schlesinger. He was a genius songwriter, and made it seem effortless. Fountains of Wayne, Ivy, Tinted Windows, movies (That Thing Y…

  • Four releases by the Mommyheads, two old and two new. All NYOP. The major label debut (self-titled) and particularly Bingham's Hole are excellent, brainy power pop with some proggy elements. I have those two on CD and spent some time hunting them do…
  • I resisted streaming for a long time but recently started a Spotify family plan when my eMu subscription ran out in December. Basically spending the same money each month, but listening to all sorts of new releases on my commute to/from work. My dau…

  • I first encountered Ken Nordine on Hal Willner's great Disney tribute album. Went back and explored a bit, what an amazing career. RIP.

  • Sadly, not surprised at all. I suspect eMusic will end up on the scrap heap with other more-or-less fondly remembered digital music sites (Amie Street, Lala, Guvera, etc). The only question is how long the death spiral will continue.

Good stuff there. But when I clicked the link it showed 31 Wire albums still available. I can particularly recommend the three Read & Burn EPs for .99 cents each.
  • I can confirm @djh with respect to the "My Music" folder, I have split albums but also a bunch of missing tracks on purchases. A few examples:

    UFO, Th…
  • I thought the passport thing was a joke. If they're serious, they're also insane.
  • My eMusic membership was up for renewal in December and I just canceled. Told them in email that I was disappointed in all the label/album losses and despite verbal reassurances, none seemed to be coming back. Also mentioned that probably 80% of my …
  • I haven't contributed to this thread in a while, though I've seen a bunch of cool shows this year. Sunday night I saw Jason Bonham's Led Zeppelin Evening (f/k/a JB's LZ Experience). Two hours of Jason and band wailing away on Zep classics and album …
  • I do find it amusing that with all the excitement about tokens and whatnot, they haven't really been talking about music. It's all about the platform, and never mind the fact that labels have been leaving the platform in droves. Pay no attention to …
  • Increasingly skimpy selection, but I found a couple of good deals on two-disc sets.

  • My eMu subscription is prepaid through December. I will not be renewing. Plan to move that monthly outlay to Spotify (family plan), which my daughter has been clamoring for. Interesting to see her perspective on music vs. mine - she has been buying …
  • The great Otis Rush.

  • (Quote) I agree completely. My prepaid annual sub runs out in December, and I am just trying to get through the next three months and pick up what I can until then. There's still enough stuff in my SFL to spend the monthly credits I'll have, …
  • Eddie Willis, one of the original Funk Brothers. Time to watch Standing in the Shadows of Motown again. RIP.

  • Clearly. Except I foolishly re-upped on a prepaid annual plan which expires in December. Assuming the service is around that long, I'll have a bit more money to spend. I'm surprised I have that many on the new account, because the old one was supple…

  • My original eMusic account was tied to an old email address I no longer have. When I re-upped last year, I used a current email, so it's a different account. I have playlists with all the downloads for each account (creatively entitled, eMusic …

Chimes of Freedom, 4-disc collection of Bob Dylan covers. I'm sure it's hit or miss but at $6.49 for 76 tracks I'll take …
  • I also bought a booster a couple of days ago to DL several albums in my SFL I would regret missing if they disappeared. Unfortunately, I prepaid my annual membership last December, so I will have to ride it out though the rest of the year and hope t…

  • I haven't been reviewing this thread for a while, but a whole bunch of stuff that was in my eMusic SFL last week now shows as unavailable. Similarly, some albums I just bought last week are now unavailable for purchase, though I still have access to…

  • And the Black Box Recorder set is now unavailable. Thanks for the heads up, gotta be quick.
  • Four-disc set from the Wrecking Crew, tied to the excellent documentary. 74 tracks, $6.49.

  • I have XM in both our cars and like it a lot, particularly for long road trips. Underground Garage, First Wave, Deep Tracks, Ozzy's Boneyard, Beatles and Petty channels are a few of my oft-used presets. My wife likes the 70s/80s/90s stations. Agree …
  • The Anthem is a brand new music venue in DC from the owners of the 9:30 Club. It has a capacity of 6,000 but can be reconfigured for smaller events to about half that size. They opened on Thursday with a Foo Fighters show that sold out in about 10 s…
  • I have found several albums I purchased (like the Eccentric Soul compilation) where My Music shows I have 18 tracks, but I bought the whole thing and it's available on eMusic. Not sure why the other tracks don't show for me, but I'm not too worried …
  • Plong42, I did the same thing with the Holdsworth set. Glad to know I'm not the only one who feels compelled to do stuff like that.
  • Allan Holdsworth - The Man Who Changed Guitar Forever (97 tracks, $6.99) - according to a reviewer on Amazon, this is every track on his 12 solo albums.
