You can't get ot the cathyhn search link? Hmm. Maybe try another browser. I use IE to gt the emu freebies, and I was still able to see thom's cathy link... I only get the subscribe page after I log in to get the freebies.
Just a deja vu all over again on an unrelated topic - I was looking at this Yahoo story about the possibility of using cloning technology to resurrect the mammoth using modern elephants as surrogates, something given my interests in paleontology I am pretty excited about - link - and on a whim scrolled down to view the comment section which is an unbelievably gross collection of inanity. Golllllllllliiiieee!
What I forgot to say above is...ya gotta laugh. This is probably preferable to my other thought, " Our civilization (a term used very loosely in this context) is doomed". As Cicero wrote in his day, "The names of the foolish are written upon the walls". Not that much has changed.
Count me as one person who objects to the resurrecting of a mammoth. Much rather see the resources go to saving something that's still here. Or if you insist on bringing something back, start more recently, like the thylacine, ivory-billed woodpecker, passenger pigeon or even dodo. Personally take no comfort in a country that still eats whales bringing back mammoths. [/opinion-rant]
Youtube comments are the worst. You can have a video of a cute kitten playing with a ball of string and the thread will turn into some sort of racist screed declaring how idiotic we are because this was clearly photoshopped. Yes, I have actually read comments declaring such items as a baby panda sneezing are fake.
Oh wait, there's also the IMDb forums. They will make you wish for the entire movie industry to be shut down.
The ones that really get me on youtube are the ones displaying no grasp of [the existence of such a thing as] chronological sequence, e.g. ranting how terrible it is that Kraftwerk ripped off a melody from Coldplay or the Black Eyed Peas.
Of course looking at a video connected with the Third Reich or the reunification of Germany and reading the comments is also not advised if your intent is to keep civilized company.
True. I had in mind also the comments that make it a good thing. Youtube comments on this can boil down to "the world has gone bad because we didn't listen to Hitler - that was the golden age" as well as "all Germans are ***********."
"Der Fuehrers Face is a 1943 animated cartoon by the Walt Disney Studios, starring Donald Duck. It was directed by Jack Kinney and released on January 1, 1943 as an anti-Nazi propaganda movie for the American war effort. The film won the 1943 Academy Award for Animated Short Film, and was the only Donald Duck cartoon to win an Oscar."
And a prime example of the above discussion about the high cultural level of youtube comments - within 2 pages Hitler is a saint and the evil Jews made the noble Aryan Germans into the real victims of the Holocaust. I have to find a way to stop myself from scrolling down.

@thom, yikes - I'm glad that's over and done with. Tempers were running high in a few of those threads.
i'm prolly just confirming what is widely-known: if cancelled, the boards are off limits.

I like the guy who comments, "Oh, please, like this will even work." Science marches on!
"I'm melting, melting...........".

As outlined in the article, there are some daunting technical challenges involved with this. Five years may be optimistic. [/fake scientist]
