"Traced in Sand is the first collaboration between Benjamin Dauer and Specta Ciera (Devin Underwood), both of whom have previously released on Distance. As a duo they intricately weave together synthesizers, field recordings and sparse guitar and piano tones to form an immersive sonic tapestry."
I'm really not sure how I got to this but, thanks to whomever put me on the search.
It's terrific, most of my favourite elements- droney bits, loud bits, found bits, noisy bits, guitar bits, lots of percussion and some great improvisational vocals.
On Google Play US this week the free album of the week is Buddy Guy - Born to Play Guitar (pic linked below). Nice to have a free album of the week that isn't pop. The Play Blues Pioneers album that greg posted above has now also become free on Google Play US (was $8.99 a few days ago)
Ditto, esp the soul stuff! Interesting development, now that we are in a streaming world...I suppose Google wants to help us build up our "Libraries" on their service. Looks like this is all Sony stuff.
Sadly not available on the UK. I am wondering if I will be able to access them next week when I am in the States? I know Amazon US recognises my UK credit card! But these are free so might be different....
Dronarivm, a strong Russian label for various kinds of ambient music, is having a third anniversary sale at the moment. While releases with remaining physical inventory are on sale, a significant number of releases that sold out their physical release are now NYOP/Free, no minimum, no email required, and these include some really excellent, top drawer releases. For example:
(@amclark2, this is to my ear not quite at the level of Shallow, but it has some really nice tracks; if you liked Shallow you should grab it).
Aaron Martin/ Christoph Berg - Day has Ended Free/NYOP.
Darren Harper - Passages for the Listless and Tired Free/NYOP.
AND MORE!!!! (Philippe Lamy, Maps and Diagrams, Sima Kim, ryonkt/offthesky, Tobias Hellkvist, Pillowdiver, Strom Noir...)
Seriously, there is a lot of very good music going for free here for a short time. And why not chip in a donation on one of them? It's a great label. (The physical releases are nicely packaged too - I have a few).
Audiogourmet has been quieter for some time and I have not checked it in a while, but there are a few recent releases trickling out, either free or NYOP/No Minimum (and no email address needed):
This is a large (43 track) compilation of ambient/electronic tracks assembled by Hibernate records as a fundraiser after the Nepal earthquake. Now that the fundraising window is over, it has been made a Free Download.
Artists include: Machinefabriek, Caught in the Wake Forever, Clem Leek, Field Rotation, Maps and Diagrams, The Green Kingdom, Good Weather for an Airstrike, Antonymes, Olan Mill, offthesky, Wil Bolton, and many more.
At Google Play (U.S.), Pink Floyd's Wish You Were Here is free this week. Who doesn't have this who would want it? They also have an album by Bleachers (Experimental pop side project of Fun.'s Jack Antonoff) called Terrible Thrills, Volume 2. Don't care much for Fun., so I'll be passing on that.
Thanks Bremble. Me, for one...Floyd is on that short list of artists that were so overplayed in my youth, I never bought the CDs. (The Doors and Springsteen being others.) It will be interesting to listen to this straight through, for the first time in some decades.
Me too; this is better sound quality than the copy I have; also I guess since I first got this a little over 20 years ago, when the album was almost 20 years old, there could be some 20 year old out there discovering this for the first time now. I still have my used vinyl copy from back then; it was $3.50!
- "In 2003, Janek Schaefer, DJ Olive and Lawrence English shared a series of live performances across the East coast of Australia as part of the Sound Summit festival.
Recently, a live recording of the trio's performance at the Sydney Opera House surfaced out of the archive here at Room40 HQ. More than a decade on, it seemed like a good time to make this recording public. This edition is an edit made from a stereo recording at the Sydney Opera House."

JANEK SCHAEFER + DJ OLIVE + LAWRENCE ENGLISH
THREE BY THREE BY THREE

Except I just tried to download some of them and when the "buy it" window popped up, it said they were all $0.99. False advertising!
