I'm just about done reading Miles' autobiography, and also on the 'to read' shelf is the book from this thread. So I figured I need to give this a few spins in the coming days.
Listening to Underworld for the first time in many years . . . Nothing new under the Underworld sun, but they are still making some very catchy stuff . . .
I was thinking again just the other day how Amie spoiled me. Not just the prices (or perhaps the unprices - the very idea of them effectively paying me as I downloaded music) and certainly not the selection (which was never that great) but the sense that whenever I went to the site there was something to see, the chance of snagging something. None of the other sites have that every-visit frisson of possibility. Amie has made them seem more boring, and then left the room. A very bad way to behave.
Brighternow, there's a nice if short preview from the new Nest release here. Listening to it now.
"In this engaging ether Nest truly step it up another level. Once again Totland and Roberts are in total control of their craft, and while this release leaves the listener wanting to hear a lot more, it is finely crafted, gorgeous and isolating."
- Nayt Keane / The Silent Ballet
"There is no doubt that these four tracks are the result of two talented artists, who in working together have discovered an algorithm to exponentially develop both the beauty of their work, and meaning behind it."
- Future Sequence
"This is where dark ambient drift meets the profoundly affecting glacial intensity of prime Biosphere or Thomas Koner in an orgasmic icy chasm."
- Norman Records
Brian McBride - "When the Detail Lost Its Freedom"
-Great early morning Kranky music. Also, a pop culture reference... this is the last album I bought on Amie St. just before it shut down.
