I think this maybe still tops my end of year best of list. (I really hope the cover art is some kind of mysterious glowing crystal and not a soccer ball behind drapes, it would be so much more fitting.)
ETA: A very merry Christmas to everyone ! - For us here in Denmark Christmas eve was yesterday.
- BTW. - Nice straight forward big band jazz released yesterday by Clinical Archives.
Finally, an end of year best-of list that is on my wavelength (I was starting to be amazed by how many hundreds of best records of the year I didn't care for or have never heard of): the Fluid Radio top 50 has added several titles to my SFL and helped me discover one that may have to go onto my own best of year list (despite the inevitable risks of early-listen enthusiasm):
My Christmas CDs had a nice range too - ambient, experimental, post-metal, classical, 1980s pop, ... and I've ordered me some jazz with a gift card. I'm set up for a variety of moods for a little while.
From an X5 comp that was $.99 on amazon a couple of months ago. There's a whole bunch of X5 comps on sale today over there. Any classical experts have any opinions on these? I like the sound of this Mozart one, and I think I'll pick up a couple more. The Bach one gives me pause because it's full of names that normally show up on BIS - I wonder if it's licensed somehow or just stolen.
Belated Merry Christmas, or otherwise Happy Holidays to everyone. Christmas on emusers makes me miss Selfrisinmojo.
And a big big thank you for whomever(s) it was who clued me in to how simple it was to click and drag a bandcamp image from the artist site into a post here.
I ask myself, why did it take me so long to grab this gorgeous album ?
Ben Frost - Steel Wound
"Since his earliest days, Ben Frost has been fascinated by the cinematic qualities of the guitar. His output to this point has hinted at this, but with Steel Wound he makes a bold statement of intent.
In early 2003 Frost set up a remote studio at a derelict cabin overlooking the icy waters of Bass Strait Australia. With a constant wind flowing off the sea his only companion, Frost started work on a series of improvisations that would eventually become Steel Wound. Each of the pieces on Steel Wound is an epic journey, coloured with a deep sense of filmic narrative and suggested dialogues. The textural quality of the works, laced with field recordings and lost vocal fragments, sketches out the emotional soundscapes Frost had unwittingly gathered during his time at Johanna Beach. Each piece is a splintered fragment in time - a forgotten memory beautifully rediscovered in a moment of introspection."

A lot of these artists have free/NYOP stuff on Bandcamp, so it's a good base for more exploring.
Cuong Vu - "Leaps of Faith"

- Attilio Novellino has a track on the Futuresequence 2 comp. (41)
Really excellent.
Found a bootleg of the 2011 Wire Rewind, and this is their No. 1.
I like the list for having the guts to put te universally panned Lulu in the top 10.
