Kobzar by Owcharuk 5 (a bunch of musicians in the Jason Parker's Seattle scene)
A Kobzar is an itinerant Ukrainian bard. The tradition, established in the 16th century, survives history to this day. Often blind, the Kobzars played a type of lute called the bandura, singing epic poems and songs that are the Kozak equivalent of a spiritual. Many of the melodies here come out of that tradition. We took lots of liberties with the folk material -- adding our own and blending it with the many different kinds of things we like about music.

    released 08 April 2010
    The Owcharuk 5 is:
    Beth Fleenor-clarinet
    Jim Knodle-trumpet
    Michael Owcharuk-accordion
    Nate Omdal-bass
    Cody Rahn-drums.

    Pretty good, and free.

Thanks to Brighternow. I've been enjoying this and 5 Pieces...

This makes all the right moves but still comes across to me a bit spiritless.

    - For no other reason than both the cover and the music is quite cute:

Laura Mura & the Seven Dwarves - "My bootleg"
    - La Bel Netlabel - [LBN013] (January 16, 2012)

"My bootleg" is a recording of Laura Mura's concert at Alkestis theatre, so small, yet perfect for her show. She had arranged her good music with few instruments, many toys, a great deal of wizardry..."

    - “To make machine music so imperfect that it would become more human than human, so we can’t tap the beat on a metronome but instead feel it the way you should feel it like a trek on the rocks that almost made you trip yesterday but all this naivete how could it be so you don’t care good neither do I.”

7 pop acousmatic roundabout trips with Milliseconde topographie’s Nicolas Bernier.

"We have 4 well-sculpted pieces of modern improv jazz, hypno-rock, where each composition is driven by either fuzzy guitars, strong basslines and hypnotic organic rhythms."
  • That Bernier album has a witty title. About time he made something new (that's not vinyl only :-))

"Francis Dhomont’s influence spans beyond the scope of his musical practice. The human richness of his art, his serious and pragmatical approach to theory, his honest and tactful union of philosophy and music, the fierce life animating his compositions are all essential elements of his inspiring work.

On December 15th, 2001, fifteen musicians unveiled fourteen eclectical remixes of Dhomont’s landmark compositions. A sincere hommage made of acousmatic snapshots and live performances."
