    Mileece - Formations. Unusual. Gentle.

Random observation: someone needs to figure out a way to give recommendation engines a sense of time. My son is now 21 and interning at the UN, and amazon.co.uk is still recommending Star Wars lego and Mick Inkpen books to me by email.

I'm continuing my early morning listening to Beatles' albums. I've already played Help whilst catching up on the overnight (for me) threads on emusers - lots today, shame I had to turn off my computer early yesterday, but unusually I was in work from 4.30 to 8pm doing an evening masters session with teachers. Now onto

Ok I know it is Phil Collins, but it his his Big Band, and his role is basically to play the drums and pay the bills! If you don't know this album, it was recorded about 12 years ago. I've always liked big band music - I think it must be in my genes, as my father has played in big bands for70 or so years. Sadly there are not that many professional big bands around today as the cost is too great. There are those like this where there is basically someone up front doing the initial funding, those that come together really for the joy of it, like the SF Jazz Collective for a short time annually, and young bands - James Hamilton comes to mind - who are struggling to keep going, plus a few supported by organisations like the BBC or armed forces. Many of the tracks on this album are either Genesis or Phil Collins numbers plus a few others like Mile Davis' Milestones and AWB's Pick up the Pieces. I do feel a MiG article in the future brewing up somewhere....

You can here the band on YouTube - Chips and Salsa , In the Air Tonight and Sussudio

I've just been listening to several Afrobeats songs linked from a fascinating Guardian article. Well worth a read - follow the hyperlink.
It's the new sound of the UK underground, reworking the African pop of Fela Kuti for kids reared on grime, hip-hop and funky house. With stars like Kanye West wanting in, just how big will it get?
