The nods to Supertramp made me fire up Spotify so I could listen more to fun., which I've really been enjoying. They're very contemporary, but listening to them I think of Supertramp and Queen, and maybe Yes. What I don't hear are any references to 60's icons like Dylan, the Stones or the Beatles, which is good. Well, there may be a faint glimmer of 70's era Who in there somewhere, filtered through Queen. Reviews have mentioned hip-hop, but I don't hear it at all. Maybe I don't understand hip-hop well enough to recognize it when I hear it. While I was writing that last sentence, though, Spotify ran an ad for somebody named Usher and I could hear some connection.
@GP - thanks for the info on Jill Phillips and Andy Gullahorn. I'll check them out.
Currently listening to this RB Morris EP (full-length album was released a year or two later called Spies, Lies & Burning Eyes, but I've never found it anywhere):
There are stretches of that Stephan Mathieu album that sound as if a richly resonant chord has just been played and we are listening to the fading resonance, except that the chord was never played and the resonance does not fade but continues on for a long time, and yet somehow also sounds as if it is fading, even though it isn't. Fascinating.

High praise: when you get through a 59 minute drone piece and then want to hear it again right away.
Before reembarking on Mathieu I listened to this:
