ML, Josh was also new to me before this project, which consists of an all-star line-up of (mostly) young Chicago jazz guys. Very thought-out, muscular music that tries to draw a line all the way from 20s dance music to "free jazz." They had a show a couple weeks ago at the Old Town School, fun to be there for the event. I like almost everything on Delmar jazz these days.

- "Markus Mehr follows up his stunning debut album Lava with three new releases released over a 12 month period. In is the first part of the triptych, comprising two monumental tracks, Komo and Ostinato, each of which clocks in at around 25 minutes, circling around and building upon hypnotic instrumental motifs. Komo gradually emerges from silence, its distant, filtered throb reluctantly revealing its source material a heartbreaking string part whose emotional impact intensifies as the loop clarifies. Ostinato is an altogether darker, gnarlier experience, its string loops chewed into distorted knots which are highlighted by treated guitars and crafted electronics."
Weird, I see it. It's Kitten - A Compilation, currently put out by the label Garage D'Or. They also rereleased Barefoot & Pregnant - A Compilation that was a studio comp also originally on Reflex. Both are excellent.

I love the Delmark label. Thanks for posting this. Was totally unfamilar with Josh Berman. Interested in your thoughts on this one.
