Earcandy for Art bears: - "With a history that spans 30+ years that takes in collaborations with visonary artists such as Lydia Lunch, Justin Broadrick (Godflesh), The The, Ashley Wales (Spring Heel Jack) and Derek Jarman to sit alongside releases on esteemed labels Mute, Utech, Southern and SubRosa amongst others, renowned English soundtrack composer/songwriter Simon Fisher-Turner and French turntablist/'musical travel agent' Philippe Petit join hellosQuare to present their first collaborative release - A Ti Dou Li Dum A Ti Dou Li Dou Ti D
Thom: Brave Old World and the KCB albums are very good. Actually, the KCB album, Yiddish Renaissance, really captures the excitement of the original 78 rpms. If you're looking for something with that big band sound, you almost couldn't do better.
Songs in the Key of Hanukkah is really Jewish songs with contemporary beats (machine). Sometimes good, sometimes bad. YMMV
All those albums are at Guvera. Several others are listed. However, I've had difficulty downloading them. It seems that some releases on Rounder Records, like those by Klezmorum and the Klezmatics, won't download. Indeed, the Rounder albums aren't reliable downloads UNLESS there are two versions of each song (the first one will work, the second will fail).
Outside of what's available at Guvera, I like Klezmatics' Jews with Horns and Rhythm and Jews (the latter is considered a landmark), The Wholesale Klezmer Band, and Naphtule's Dream. Frank London of Klezmatics had been doing some good things with Klezmer Brass All-Stars, which I always mean to get. I'm a little indifferent to the Grisman/Statman albums, although Statman's Jewish music is deeply spiritual and engaging on its own (though not really great for the seasonal mood).
Awesome guitar primitivism: aggressive. Bachman is a favorite performer of Dying for Bad Music (they released a single by him last year). This disappeared from eMu, along with lots of other Tompkins Square, but reappeared today.
Lots of grading to complete today, so I am starting with Chicago Transit Authority and working my way through the mid 70's. Maybe no further that 11, or until they get to sappy.

Did we know already that there was some Vampi Soul at Guvera?
Kahn, not Khan. I think of him as being more Gypsy Punk (which often incorporates Klezmer idioms), though it's good stuff.

G. Three more from Filtrate showed up late tonight, leaving me with just enough to get this.

Happened across this on Guv. Robert Fripp and Andy Summers. New one on me but sounds nice enough so far.
