thom - No problem! It's so good it makes me almost want to buy the separated tracks version on iTunes just to encourage them to continue releasing them!
I downloaded this earlier this morning, then half a hour later discovered it is one of Jonah's Recommended Jazz Picks this week. As I was reading through his Jazz Picks it made we wonder how he would have reviewed some of the Jazz Greats, if, eg, Jonah had been around in 1959 when Kind of Blue and Time Out were released. Would either have made Pick of the Week or Highly Recommended? Now there is a challenge for you Jonah!
There's a lot of other good looking stuff on their soundcloud page; for some reason I never really listend to much Italians Do It Better stuff before; lots to explore. Really liking this.
I'm actually seeing Mr. Mould on Saturday. With the Mats news, and the fact Grant Hart has a new album coming out next week, could we see a Husker Du reunion?
Free download from Noisetrade. Very pleasant folk-rock, reminiscent of eg, Mumford and Son, if you like that kind of thing. I don't mind it in small doses!
Australia's Indie-folk outfit The Paper Kites drew acclaim for their debut EP Woodland by layering earthy instrumentations with beautiful vocal harmonies. The follow-up EP, Young North, married a more upbeat feel while maintaining the romantic appeal from Woodland. This Noisetrade sampler features tracks from both EPs as a prelude to their upcoming full-length debut album (Fall 2013).
The band began with Sam Bentley and Christina Lacy playing local cafes in their hometown of Melbourne, Australia. When invited to play a local festival, they decided it was time to expand by adding David Powys, Sam Rasmussen and cousin Josh Bentley. Sam and I worked together in a warehouse, Josh was my cousin and I liked his drumming we liked David because he could sing and were big fans of his other band. It was never really an official lets start a band conversation, we just kind of fell into it, says Bentley.
- "Devin Sarno (born in Glendale, California in 1966) began CRIB in early 1990 as a solo bass sound project focusing on improvised subsonics. Over the course of a decade (and over a dozen recordings) his music evolved from high volume feedback experimentation to a sonic examination of the meditative properties of low-end drone music. In 2003, the CRIB moniker was retired & Sarno now performs & records under his own name.
Sarno was a founding member of the Los Angeles, CA art-rock band Waldo The Dog Faced Boy and in 1989, along with partner/producer Tom Grimley, he also co-founded the experimental label WIN Records, which was home to artists such as: Petra Haden, Alicia J. Rose, The Centimeters, Upsilon Acrux & many more. As a bassist, Sarno has collaborated/recorded with a range of diverse acts including: Nels Cline, Thurston Moore, Vincent Gallo, Joe Baiza, Mike Watt, Jack Brewer, Z'EV, Petra Haden, that dog., Abby Travis, Danny Frankel, G.E. Stinson, Jeff Gauthier, Tom Surgal, Upsilon Acrux, Carla Bozulich, Brandon LaBelle, Jason Kahn, The Watson Twins, Jessica Catron, Celer and others.
Sarno's music was featured on the CBS TV network program The Courier (micro-series) which aired nationally in January 2006 and found itself broadcast over New York City's Times Square JumboTron. Film composing works have included the score for "Postmortem Bliss" by noted director Floria Sigismondi as well as "Eve" and "DadaDum" for Canadian-based director/fine artist Britt Randle. "DadaDum" screened at the 2007 Toronto International Film Festival as a Best Short Film nominee."

This is also very good. I don't know that it's 'album of the year' good like some are claiming, but it's very good.

Don't worry, the electric piano is only on a couple songs
I'm 1/4 Italian, so I do it marginally better.

No. But it would be awesome.
