Newly composed orchestral suite based on the urban flow of Paris. Powerful, energetic. Last years appointment of Olivier Benoit as director was considered somewhat controversial.
Blue Soul by Blue Mitchell. The wife and I heard a song from this album on Pandora and I was motivated to look it up, and when I found the CD available at Amazon for $4.72 I said Hell, yeah. Still at that price. Nice album, good band behind him.
This book was gifted to be five years ago, but until now, I have had no chance to go through it thoroughly. It's a wonderful book with lots of articles, interviews, and transcriptions. As I go along, I have been playing the songs for which I have recordings (lots of Beausoleil, Balfa and Savoy stuff) and checking stuff out at Cajun Music Mp3s.
Dick's Picks Volume 22, 1968 at Kings Beach, California. In other online Dead news, check out the YouTube "channel" Music Vault. They recently added a bunch of new GD vids for your viewing pleasure.
Trio of soprano sax, piano, and double bass. Hints of Middle-East and Mediterranean influence on a few tracks. But mostly just a sublime recording that has plenty of activity but the kind of music you can just drift off to.

People Take Warning! Murder Ballads & Disaster Songs 1913-1938. 3CD set, $14 @Amazon. A nice collection of death and disaster, although a bit heavy on Titanic songs.

- A band that still takes my breath away, even after all these years . . .
That ONDJ album is pretty good. Been enjoying it the last few days. Got it lined up for my Jazz Picks column tomorrow.
Wasn't aware of any background on Benoit. Might have to satisfy curiosity now.
Cheers.
Accordingly, thus far today I've listened to ABC - The Lexicon of Love, Duran Duran - Rio, and now:
New Order - Power, Corruption & Lies
After that is Adam & the Ants - Kings of the Wild Frontier
Then probably someone without early 80s synths.

Mind over Midi - Polyphony
Ah, the exquisite indecision of rather liking something that is charging $10 on bandcamp.
