Of course I have! Very little better than spending a weekend at a northern Minnesota cabin and listening to the loon calls in the night while toasting marshmallows around a fire.
On another note: usually consulting-type work that I do falls either under the heading of formal and paid or informal and done for free; when the result instead is an envelope with a $50 voucher for The Corner Record Shop, it says that someone knows me :-)
As I think I mentioned already, I picked up this and The Courage of Others on a whim in a CD sale. I am really liking The Courage of Others; this one not so much.
Pacific Bridge by Richard Crandell & Masumi Timson
Just stumbled across this. Rather lovely. Some of you stringed instrument people may like this.
A beautiful collaboration album between Richard Crandell playing the African instrument Mbria, and Masumi Timson playing the Japanese traditional instrument Koto, recorded in Oregon, US. Somehow these 2 instruments with complete different background matches quite well and it's one of those albums where you can listen to it over and over because of it's relaxing peaceful sounds and the amazing yet thoughtful interactions between these 2 skilled musicians.
ETA: "tags: new age world world ambient electronica post rock techno Japan" - now that's hedging your bets!! How exactly a Mbria/Koto duet counts as Electronica or Techno I am not sure...it's definitely not new age or ambient either. Or post-rock.
Paul Dresher - Concerto for Quadrachord & Orchestra - all three moveents - "The Quadrachord is an invented musical instrument with four strings and is 15 feet long.
On this composite recording, the Berkeley Symphony Orchestra conducted by Joana Carneiro performed the 1st and 2nd movements, Oct. 2012
The La Jolla Symphony conducted by Steven Schick performed the 3rd movement, March 2013"
