-A recent Jazz Pick that has really grown on me the more time I spend with it. Dreamy, with occasional outbursts. Sextet w/three wind instruments give it an airy touch, ability to jack up the power on command.
Led by flautist Belinda Woods. Don't get turned off by the flute. I've been hearing a lot better treatments of flute-led jazz these last few years that contradict the cheesy and/or screechy reputation it earned back in the day.
@BN, re:Nest, isn't that something like the third time they have released a new version of that album?
, Yeah, must be . . . But the bonus tracks are simply out of this world.

Plastikman - EXhale (Sonar Live Mix) MP3
Taken from the Plastikman live performance at Sonar, Barcelona June 2014.
Original version appears on the album 'EX' - Out now
- And: - "Plastikman, aka Richie Hawtin, recorded EX at the Guggenheim, New Yorks iconic art museum. This very special performance was at the invitation of influential Belgium fashion designer and artistic director at Dior, Raf Simons, for the Guggenheims annual fundraiser, performed around a specially constructed LED obelisk.
Richie Hawtin explains, I knew that Raf was a long time Plastikman fan so by accepting his offer to perform at the Dior event at the Guggenheim I knew Id set myself up to a huge challenge. Although Raf was happy to have the already complete Plastikman Live 1.5 show, I locked myself away in a series of intense studio sessions and quickly recorded enough new material for the performance and realized I might also have enough for a complete new album. The music came out of me effortlessly as I was very inspired by the opportunity to play in this beautiful architectural space renowned more for art than music. The location also allowed me to step far away from the dancefloor, giving me a huge amount of freedom to EXplore any sonic ideas that I had. Art, music, architecture, painting, sculpture these mediums are supposed to live together. Mute Records Soundcloud - http://plastikman.com/
Dragging an Ox Through Water - The Tropics of Phenomenon
An old Free Music Archive discovery/ Amie Street purchase. Available at Bandcamp, although fairly expensive. Worth a stream at least. Sort of weird folktronica; hard to compare to anything else.
Rowan might be the first name in lyrical sophistication in Bluegrass, but this is more of a Folk/Americana album. The songs are based around Eastern spirituality, and they benefit from looser arrangements. Gentle, thoughtful.
Very little time to listen to music, but I was just waiting to go on stage at the Perth convention centre (for a speech at a teachers convention) and thinking about the fact that this is also a music venue - Bob Dylan is here soon - and wondering how many of the musicians I've heard of have waited in the same green room....
Now it's time to hear the full stream of her third solo album, the follow-up to 2008s Acid Tongue which was produced by Ryan Adams, Mike Viola, Beck, and Lewis longtime collaborator Johnathan Rice. Written after the break-up of her former band Rilo Kiley, and in the wake of her estranged father's death, the album is her most introspective yet. Making The Voyager got me through one of the most difficult periods of my life, the artist said in a statement.
After Rilo Kiley broke up and a few really intense personal things happened, I completely melted down. It nearly destroyed me. I had such severe insomnia that, at one point, I didnt sleep for five straight nights. Many of the songs on The Voyager came out of the need to occupy my mind in the moments when I just couldnt shut down.
From "Satie Slowly" - Releasing September 30, 2014 in Digital Download and Deluxe 2CD
American composer Philip Corner likes Satie too well not to object to how he is played. From the time of his participation in the first performance of Satie's "Vexations" he realized that here was, lurking under the travesties of the 1st Gymnop
Happily and surprisingly dripped by Domino yesterday. (Surprisingly because they don't have worldwide rights, so they must have worked something out with Secretly Canadian et al.)

"Life Rays" by vibist Walt Dickerson on Soul Note. Vibes, drum and bass - often-lush vibes sound in a stripped-down setting.

Gold Panda - Half of Where You Live
I love the Ghostly Drip. Hadn't been on it for like 2 years. Resign up for a couple months and they keep unlocking stuff for me.

Free six track sampler from Noisetrade. The six tracks come to about 45 minutes, definitely worth the time downloading if you are a jazz fan.
