amc: You'll appreciate this. Yesterday Sebadoh announced a show at the 250 capacity 7th Street Entry. For the night of my brother-in-law's wedding in Oregon. D'oh!
I saw that Sebadoh are touring with Thurston Moore which seemed funny/sad the classic Sebadoh (and Dinosaur Jr.) lineups finally come back and then Sonic Youth goes and breaks up...
Would that I could. We're turning it into a full fledged vacation, though, and taking the boy to Crater Lake among other things. So it'll be better the concert...I guess.

- ""I think of my music as simple; easy for listeners though not so easy for the performers. Auroras is expressive music-music of feeling. For me its meanings are non-verbal and non-visual-musical. Nevertheless they are as precise, definite and rich in detail as visual and verbal meanings, and for me deeper too, close to ultimate things."
- Robert Erickson.
I saw Sebadoh last year (I think it was last year) in Louisville at Headliner's (decent sized place, but not like a stadium or huge auditorium, maybe 800 capacity), and it was a hell of a show. I'm not the Sebadoh fan in this family, but I went along because, hey, it was Friday night and what better reason to spend it than seeing a live show. I had a real good time, enjoyed the music.
I imagine that if a non-fan like myself enjoyed the Sebadoh show, then true fans might really enjoy it and should seriously consider skipping other planned events like, I dunno, a wedding, for example.

Disinterested - "Behind Us"
Long-time favorite. Dreamy indie-pop, w/guest appearance by Bill Frisell.
An excellent Jonah Jazzpick from 06.25.14
"The trio of Mats Gustafsson, Johan Berthling and Andreas Werliin has expanded into something much more than a small-unit improv session. Expanded line-ups have led to some remarkable large ensemble performances, including last years excellent release featuring Oren Ambarchi. Reminiscent of avant-garde big bands from the 60s/70s, this mix of jazz, pop, trip-psych and modern rock has a big sound full of life and excitement and energy. Featuring (among others) trumpeter Goran Kajfes, guitarist David Stackenas, and Sofie Jernberg (one of three vocalists). The term organized chaos comes to mind frequently in listening to this recording a bunch of moving parts in perpetual states of collision, and yet the music has a pop music focus that makes for a very simple connection. Unquantifiable and unclassifiable, just unbounded creative expression. So damn good, and Highly Recommended."
organized chaos indeed - and probably the easiest accessible release from Fire! so far . . .
- And yes, "So damn good, and Highly Recommended"
This is one of five albums I have downloaded from this week's Jazz Picks - thanks Jonah. Most of those I have downloaded are, by chance, around 7 tracks long, which, on the UK system, means they are good value

Reinbert de Leeuw is rather famous for his well-regarded and very slow Satie performances, e.g. Gymnopedie No. 1
I'm running around a room with new ghosts

This one's growing on me. It's so claustrophobic sounding; I find it helps to turn the volume way down.
