Spent the most delightful afternoon at the Music House Museum near Traverse City, Michigan. Best Museum tour I have ever experienced. If any of you are interested in devices for automatically reproducing music between 1880 and 1930 (pianolas, victriolas, nickelodeons, Edison phonographs, gramophones, graphopohones, player pianos, automatons, reproducing pianos, barrel organs, etc) this place is magical, and the tour guide was beyond excellent. Tour took two and half hours and I was enthralled throughout. Marvelous day. Might write a bit more about it if I get time.
GO DREAM is the new album from Lukas Creswell-Rost. Full of shifting moods, earworm melodies, restless arrangements and dark humour. Running through its core is a heartfelt take on a theme of ambition, fame, success & failure. It slowly dawned on me that people are weird. Some of them are totally arrogant and selfish and driven by things which repel me. And in that kinda misanthropic mindset I found a lot to write about.
Five years ago Lukas relocated from his hometown of Leeds, UK, to the thriving hub of Berlin. Those five years mark a dramatic shift musically and personally. Tastes developing and attitudes changing. A personal message was forming. One which required honing down and carefully constructing, as only one man alone in his home studio can do.
Streaming this from Bandcamp and is available from E Music. This will be one of those I will get when I come out of hold.
Streaming the latest album from Andrey Kiritchenko's Nexsound Netlabel (Ukraine) from The Archive:
- "Trianov Maxim musician, sound artist from Kharkov (Ukraine) . He works in fields of musical performance, contemporary classical music, free improvisation, experimental electronic music. In his records he use piano, synths, percussion and self-made instruments, but the most important instrument is guitar (electric and acoustic). He has recorded more than 10 albums of his music and published them on CD, tapes and internet on different labels in Ukraine, Russia, Switzerland, Germany, USA and Australia."
Emerging as a favorite for the year. Check out the tune at the Bandcamp link below, "Lost Tribes of Lemuria" - Incredible sound by Azar and Nicholas Payton. Paraphrasing a review I saw somewhere, they make 2 horns sound like 8.

A Winged Victory for the Sullen, Atomos.
Great stuff. Grows as it goes.
Still in the running for my album of the year, though the field is way more crowded than last year.
Always reminds me of the emu message boards, and the discussion we once had about the creepy waving hands gif at the top...
