I like the look of that Mod Revival set Lowlife. Having been a mod back in the day, I'm sure that set would be of interest to me. Currently listening to Dave Brubeck's Time Out.
Jacob Kirkegaard With Ensemble Senatet:
Clarinet: Vicky Wright; Percussion: Mads Bendsen; Trombone: Andras Olsen; Violin: Kirsten Riis-Jensen; Viola: Mina Fred; Cello: Sofia Olsson.
- "In collaboration with Danish ensemble Scenatet, Jacob Kirkegaard's two pieces Labyrinthitis and Church are here interpreted by classical instruments. The intention of this transformation into an instrumental score is to explore the musical dimension and potential of the sounds that were used in creating the original works.
Church (from "4 Rooms", Touch, 2006) originally consists of ambient recordings of an abandoned church inside the radioactive zone in Chernobyl. Laybrinthitis (Touch, 2008) is a canon of oto-acoustic tones generated by the artist's own ears. Like most of Kirkegaard's sound works, both pieces are characterised by a strong focus on methodology, and by the artist's wish to omit any deliberate emotional or "musical" intention."
Helen Davies, harp (Pallle Mikkelborg's wife)
Richard Krug, recitation
Gert Sørensen, percussion
Else Marie Pade, composer
About: "With this CD we are presenting another two works by Else Marie Pade (b. 1924) that have never before been released, or even played in a concert. They are a mainly acoustic piece, Aquarellen über das Meer I-XXI and the all-electronic Illustrations. Although so far several CDs of Else Marie Pade's music have been released, there are still new experiences ahead before we have a full overview of her pioneering musical efforts."
More 2014 Jazz. Lionel Loueke really pushes this one over the top.
Just found out about this one, sounds great on first spin. Kind of exciting to think about the new possibilities for Cuban musicians (and baseball players!)
Spending most of the day listening to Singaporean Pop.
Later, I'll be revisiting this beautiful box set that's a dephlegmation
of that musichemical concoction known as "world music" <ugh>.
Vietnamese trance music, Cambodian brass bands, Buddhist chants,
early gamelan ensembles, Thai xylophone virtuosos, Burmese piano
improvisations, Laotian village music, and more.
Just Finished: Lars Jakob Rudjord Ensemble - "Clockwork"
-Nice Nordic-y trio of piano, bass and cello. It's been sitting in my iTunes library for over a year and I sometimes listen to it. I had always assumed I'd written something up about it on my site, but just discovered I hadn't. Maybe there was no embeddable audio back when it first came out. Dunno. Might write something about it now.
NP: Laura Jurd - "Landing Ground"
-Nice mix of modern jazz and strings.
I know I've only been here for a short time,
but I really like the diversity, creative thinking,
and, it sounds weird, the emphasis on music here.
It's amazing how sidetracked other "music" sites get.
It's almost as if music is really low on their radar while
either showing big egos or talking about various existential
crises as the first and foremost mindless subject. Plus, all kinds
of young people with those rules, rules, rules! Wha'ppen ta da youths man?
Anyway, happy to be here discovering new ideas and sounds
from all of the generous input from all of you.

Now playing: Paul Lytton & Nate Wooley - Free Will, Free Won't
- "An anonymous project from London, UK, which surfaced online in early 2012 with a series of self-released EPs of ambient soundscapes and glitchy sound collages. "
Alan Ferber - "Music For Nonet And Strings - Chamber Songs"
-Well, this is a surprise. I didn't even realize I had this album lying around (metaphorically). It's off to a GREAT start. Might just have to write something up about it.
I'm about to go through Jonah's Best of 2014 list, listen to samples of those I do not already have on emusic and download. I refreshed a couple of days ago and one of my New Year Resolutions is to spend emusic credits as soon as I can after they appear, because you never know if they will be there the next day! Best Wishes to all for the New Year....

A favorite for the year, and one with little love from the jazz best-of lists
