- "The title track, composed by Ciro Scotto, is a four-movement work that coalesces heavy metal and contemporary classical conventions, highlighting the connections between these two different yet similarly technical worlds of composition . . .
For you non-jazz types, this 1938 performance was the first jazz concert at Carnegie Hall. Recordings were made, but forgotten until Goodman's sister-in-law found a set of acetates in 1950, leading to one of the first big hit records on LP. Almost 50 years later, the masters were found and reissued on CD, of course! Good article here
With no doubt, the best Residents covers I have ever heard:
As the title indicates, a collection of cover versions from The Residents repertoire ca.19741984 by a French band led by former members of noise rock bands Deity Guns and Bästard (Eric Aldéa, Ivan Chiossone and François Cuilleron). The addition of Radiohead collaborator Christine Ott on Ondes Martenot and several guests on a variety of instruments (cello, accordion, flute, ) combine for a unique sound alchemy and surprising arrangements, including analogue synth and theremin solos as well as Cajun version of Hank Williams's Jambalaya on The Bayou. Cover and reprise albums were, of course, part of The Residents own strategy during the 1970s and 1980s
