Greg, good win for your boys last night. I was looking forward to a trip for the Spurs campaign in Europe but two trips to deepest Russia and Tromso in Norway in winter were not looking good. Mrs Lowlife said even a chance of seeing the Northen Lights would not attract her to the trip!
Will be in my pub on Thursday watching the first game
Yes, I'll try to watch it too Lowlife. I have far less problems persuading my wife to have a Spurs game on than a Manchester United game, fortunately she was out last night! I agree two really difficult trips, although hopefully the games will be straightforward
Niger, to the east of Mali, is best known for the desert blues of Etran Finatawa and Bombino, but the capital, Niamey, is also home to this inspired and furious guitar band. Led by Hamadal "Almeida" Moumine, who works as a teacher and a judge while still playing five-hour sets with his band most nights of the week, Tal National mix energy and precision with an engagingly hybrid style. There are echoes of a sped-up desert blues in songs such as Tchana, and there are reminders of the Fuji tradition of Nigeria, to the south, in some of the percussion. But what makes this band special is their full-tilt approach, and a hypnotic intensity that reminded me at times of Kinshasa's Konono No 1. Recorded in Niamey, the album starts fast, eases off just a little, and ends in frantic style with the best track, Bangan
Well the cover art makes me think something more like "world boogie is over and got discarded in a farmer's field"....
Actually, I like the sound of the samples more than the genre would predict.
After Harris Eisenstadt, Hamilton de Holanda is the instrumentalist having the best 2013. This live album, with pianist Stefano Bollani, is the second of three, focusing on South American jazz as a whole. The percussiveness if toned down in favor of a darker, but more fluid feel.

Very nice electronic music; so far it's reminding me of Aphex Twin's Ambient Vol. 2. NYOP.
Still digesting this one, it's more than a meal - a lot of great stuff in here.
FUTURE SEQUENCE - SEQUENCE6
Good new album. Obviously all 4 members of this all-star quartet contribute, but it's a real showcase for Kevin Eubanks on guitar.
