OK, I've noticed this several times in the recent past and dabbled in listening to a soundbyte or two but have never fully checked it out. Greg's umpteenth post of it today has got the better of me. Listening to the entire album stream on Soundcloud now.
I keep looking at this on my SFL as I trim it and thinking "maybe I could delete this one - do I really need to spend the money on an extended underwater recording of noises made by fish?", and then I keep finding myself wanting to listen to it again on spotify. It has a peculiar fascination. Chris Watson territory. Going to end up buying it I think:
Oh, by the way kez, this is an ill-timed comment as I do not have the disk in front of me, but I got to listening to your mix CD of justice-themed songs in the car at the weekend. Especially liked the first track, with the alternating voices, whoever that was. And 'Red Brother, Red Sister' is an old favorite.
@GP, thanks for your comment. (That first song on the mix is by Kieran Kane, Kevin Welch & Fats Kaplin.)
@Greg, I liked Passenger's 'All the Little Lights.' I cannot get over how much that singer's voice reminds me of Kae Sun, especially on the song "Let Her Go." Kae Sun has a newer album called "Afriyie", but it is on the earlier EP called "Outside the Barcode" that he really sounds so similar to Michael Rosenberg, especially the tracks "Burden of Love" or "Firefly Dance." The style of music is not identical, but the voice is so similar, it's uncanny.
Outside the Barcode is a free download on Bandcamp. Listen to it and see if you agree, or am I just crazy...
"On My Way" EP - released last summer on Anti Records by indie-folk/pop British group, The Melodic. "On My Way is a refreshing collection of songs that showcases the groups simplistic take on Afro-pop inspired folk music. With their bright melodies and bouncy, bare-boned instrumentation The Melodic couldnt be more aptly named. Percussion shuffles along as the groups harmonies intertwine, coalescing into a soft yet poignant timbre that evokes shimmering memories of careless days."
Cool website that all the folkies should check out.
The idea for my Kitchen Songs Project has been brewing for a number of years. It started with me travelling to visit friends and relations, recording songs and chat with them, with a loose plan for a CD. Over time, I found I was focusing predominantly on songwriters, and so I decided to concentrate on this area of interest and to convert the project into a web production. It's very much a personal journey, visiting people that I have come to know in the course of my musical life.
@BT, thanks for the post on the Kitchen Songs website. I'm looking forward to checking it out.
@GP, I've been meaning for quite some time to tell you how much I enjoyed your MiG post on Winter's Fire. It immediately drew me in and was absolutely one of the most engrossing reviews I've ever read. it even came with a bonus of improving my vocabulary (because I didn't get past the second word before I had to head for a dictionary. Now I can confidently say I know what a palimpsest is!).
@Kez - just started playing the first track and I see what you mean. I'm glad you liked Passenger. I first got into him via an iTunes free track. I liked it, found the album on emusic so downloaded, and I play it a lot. He has subsequently had a couple of hit singles from the album, and that also reached the charts here. It is one of the very few weekly free iTunes tracks we get here that has actually encouraged me to download more - if I counted it would take me less than one hand!
Faustus - I liked it but I do prefer their latest album, but I've only played this one once, so I am sure it will grow on me. Quite similar in style.

Maybe it's something to do with turning 40, but I just can't get enough of the Dead lately.
