Having problems with my Internet connection, so no images this morning.
So far today I have played Fleetwood Mac Rumours, bob Dylan Highway 61, and now onto John Coltrane Blue Trane. next up will probably be another Coltrane album as I am enjoying this so much. As GP has said elsewhere you can get music saturation, and with that I haven't played any Coltrane in quite a while.
Nathan Salsburg, Hard For To Win And Can't Be Won: instrumentals and a couple songs from the director of the Alan Lomax archive. Fluid playing with some beautiful, sometimes witty, compositions.
Have listened though symphonies one through 6 (now playing) since yesterday. Downloaded this version cheap some time back, maybe here. A couple of the files are faulty (including symphony 6 movement 2).
Great music/crazy low price at eMu. Reading up a bit, I learn that the festival was actually "moved" to NYC in '72, with concerts were played at Yankee Stadium, Radio City, and other locations. The Fest actually bopped around various East Coast locations before returning to Newport in '81...Who knew? This music was originally released on 5 LPs - there was apparently a 6th LP with soul performers, which I am now curious about!
First of the JazzLoft discs - Earl Howard - Strong Force, a 51 minute suite in five parts for for synthesizer, piano, percussion, cello & harp. Recorded live at Merkin Hall, NYC, November 18, 1999. All About Jazz reviewed the disc as modern jazz, allmusic.com as classical.
Second Jazz Loft disc, Herculaneum- Orange Blossom. "Herculaneum mixes creative improvisation with diverse influences such as 20th Century avant-garde composition and Romany Gypsy brass bands to create a cohesive yet cosmopolitan new sound," says CDBaby. I find this album less avant-garde and not really "gypsy brass band" at all, more of a traditional jazz sound with a big horn sound.
. . . ."The Brothers Markus and Micha Acher have made the best out of their abilities. They are key figures in the now internationally recognised trademark that is the Weilheim Scene. Every one of their projects, be it The Notwist, 13&God or Tied & Tickled Trio has grown to become a working cosmos each of its own while remaining open on all sides. Their new album comes thanks to their preference for creative collaborations as Tied & Tickled Trio have really had a thrilling artistic liaison this time. The drummer Billy Hart is among one of the most accomplished contemporary jazz drummers in the world. . . . .
John Hollenbeck, drums, percussion, piano, berimbau; Dan Willis, English horn, tenor sax, soprano sax, flute; Jonas Tauber, cello; Skuli Sverrison, electric bass and banjo sexto; Theo Bleckmann, voice and piano
Sitting on a train travelling north to Berwick on Tweed, amazed to get 3G on my iPad. Currently listening to Vapourer by Spiro. I suppose this is folk with an ambient twist to it.
d-d-don't stop the beat
I c-c-can't control the feet
p-p-people in the streets
com'on everybody, move you're feet
Don't stop, (don't stop) don't stop, the beat
I can't stop, (can't stop) can't stop the beat
I won't stop, won't stop (won't stop) the beat
And GO

Third Jazz Loft disc, Khan Jamal, vibraphone / marimba based jazz bordering on "smooth".
Exquisite.
