Future Sequence/Various Artists - Sequence 7
Compared to the previous six volumes this one has fewer tracks and was curated more selectively by committee. It may be coincidence, but to my ear the result is an album that is certainly more even and cohesive, but also less interesting. In the previous collections there were tracks I disliked, and many that were average, but also enough that really caught my ear to distill the heap down to a really good shorter album. The process of curating for myself was quite fun. In this one there are none that strike me as particularly poor, but also none that spark my attention - I have listened to it twice and have no real favorites.

The 5-volume hibernate free/NYOP sampler series, on the other hand, is full of beautiful material. Really excellent.
Well, Santa came through on the key assignment, therefore NP:
Other CDs found under the Christmas tree and soon to be listened to (it's been an ECM Christmas):
Steely Dan, Nissan Pavillion at Stone Ridge, July 21, 1996 (SBD), via the bigO audio archive. I downloaded the mp3s this morning, realized this was one of the first bootlegs I ever obtained, under the title "The Summer's Not Half Over." Great recording if you are into Steely Dan.
My best Free Music Archive find in 2013 is with no doubt:
- and this album:
Stealing Orchestra is a band from Porto, Portugal that explores music through sampling and real instruments since 1997.
A review by Cool & Strange Music Magazine back in 2000 gives a general idea of the music by Stealing Orchestra even if there were many changes in the line-up or musical creation.
"No matter how off the map Mascarenhas' musical funhouse gets, with things running backward and jumping in at the most inappropriate spots, there is always the semblance of a song. His mixed madness has a definite lounge and pop bent to it - yet there is also a strong Portuguese/Spanish flavor. Think of all faux Spanish music that exists out there, then try to imagine what would happen if someone from the area began lampooning American culture with that inherent style. It's like a soundtrack a spy movie ran through a blender."
- "Milhaven are a 4-piece post-rock band from Bochum, Germany. Their debut album, bars closing down, was released under the netlabel 12rec. and is available for download at archive.org under a Creative Commons license. They released the 4-track I.M. Wagner EP through the same label in November 2006, recorded this time with the luxury of a 10-track hard-drive recorder as opposed to the 4-track bars closing down was recorded on! It is also available for download from archive.org." Last.fm
