  • @Germanprof I've tried to edit the classical labels list on the database thread and got this message:
"Body is 1206 characters too long."

    - maybe it's a character limit that causes the problem with text missing on the other posts I have mentioned on the Classical N&N and labels thread.
    - It doesn't make any sense, though.

@Brighternow There is a character limit...I think I can change it....
  • Found it. I upped it from 8000 to 20000. I can't visualize how long a post that is. Do you think that will be enough?
  • This is a test

@Brighternow, if you want to manually enter bold text codes rather than use the buttons above the comment box, do it like before but change [ to < and ] to >

Thanks, I don't know if it is enough but I don't get the "body" message anymore.

    - And it didn't bring back the "other labels" list.

I am just so thoroughly pissed of about what seems to be hours and hours of work wasted to provide what I thought was a useful tool for searching for music.

    - Sorry, It had to come out.
  • I think 20,000 characters is supposed to be around 5 to 7 pages in Word.

@Brighternow, eythian may be able to bring other things back when New Zeeland is awake again. I presume he backed everything up. I am limited to fiddling with things that have obvious settings buttons. Hopefully this is a teething phase and all will be restored.

@eythian, I presume you saved the graphics from the old board? For some reason the favicon is now displaying the AT&T logo for me in my browser tabs, which is disorienting (and not particularly evocative of friendly feelings).
  • Happy Sunday!
OK, taking things in roughly order:
    • Internal links: yeah, URL structure has changed, not sure that'll be fixable, but if a) the post ID numbers are the same and b) that's all I need to reference a post, then I can probably fix it. It'll take a bit of experimentation.
    • bold is totally possible, it's just using a subset of HTML rather than BBCode now. I think some of that came across in the conversion, but for whatever reason bold didn't.
    • annoyingly, there's no 'view' permission for the user's list, so I don't know how to make that available without also giving edit permissions. I'll have a play.
    • there was a time limit on editing by default, it appears to be gone now.
    • whispers should have come across, the migration tool claimed they did. Never fear, the old system still exists, so I can make it accessible in order to get that info out. I wonder if self-whispers didn't come across maybe. Talking to yourself, insanity, etc. :)
    • there were timezone issues, I think due to the old system storing things in server-local time and the new one using UTC like a saner thing. This will have caused strange issues for things that occurred in the 13-hour overlap period, including threads being out of order and new status behaving oddly. This should fix itself in time, at the expense of a few artifacts.
    • Now I hit page 2 I see @Germanprof has fixed many things. So ignore those things.
    • The old system still exists. I will look into making it available for extracting ill-migrated data from.
    • AT&T eh. That's pretty weird. I've put the old one back.
Today I'll have a prod at getting the old site back for read-only in order to allow missed data to be extracted. I see no reason for that not to be possible.
  • Well that wasn't so hard actually:

    http://www.kallisti.net.nz/emusersold/forum/

Don't post there, it won't last. But I'll keep it there for a while, perhaps a week or so.
  • PS, anything that reminds me of this:
    image
    may get ignored ;)
  • Going to have a go at getting old style URLs to autoconvert to new ones. This may cause moments of strangeness should I break something.
  • @eythian - Thank you very much for spending time with this.

I have at least with some success restored a post on the Classical N&N thread

These new codes are just so damned complicated compared to the old ones.
I have tried to find out how to use color [color=indigo], size [size=12] and align [Align=center]
    - That was totally beyond me.

    - Thanks again
  • edited February 2015
    I've enabled the wysiwyg editor.

This might make colours a bit easier if you can't be bothered screwing around with codes.

    alignment
    should
    also
    be
    easy.

    Same with BIG and small.
Don't let me catch you DOING THIS though.

Additionally, links to old style posts should sorta work. Unfortunately I couldn't make them link to the actual comment as they all seem to number differently now. However, it hopefully takes you to the right thread.

    Thank you !

Apparently embedding youtube is possible, testing.

Edit: Oh, that's easy. You just drop the link straight in.

    <iframe width="420" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/2w2VlpgV7pA" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

    That is so cool !

ETA: Hmmm ? not so cool,

  • edited February 2015
Oh cool; I wasn't sure what wysiwyg would do, but I think I got it.
  • edited February 2015
@Brighternow it's easier than that, don't include the embedding HTML stuff, just the link as you'd have it in your browser.

    or not
  • edited February 2015
    You want < b > and < /b > for bold, or just select-and-click like in a word processor
  • ok and ok not from mobile
  • Although mobile has maybe fun options too?: 夕方の犬(U ・ェ・) - ʕ•̫͡•ʕ•̫͡•ʔ•̫͡•ʔ•̫͡•ʕ•̫͡•ʔ•̫͡•ʕ•̫͡•ʕ•̫͡•ʔ•̫͡•ʔ•̫͡•ʕ•̫͡•ʔ•̫͡•ʔ♡

  • Okay, drop the link straight into what?

How odd, it just worked for me, pasting the link into the text box, as though you were just giving someone the plain link normally.
