Great new look, thanks especially to eythian for all his work on this. We've been looking after three grandchildren all weekend (aged just 2 to 6, coming on 12) so have just logged onto emusers for the first time in a few days, so quite taken aback by the change, but it is nice and clear - maybe what emusic should be???
Fwiw, I never understood "whispers" as a replacement for a PM, and do not know what use case bn has in mind that he misses. What's the value of an almost-invisible post to a thread?
So the problem is not cutting and pasting per se but the fact that once you have pasted the results are in the old BB Code and not the new html code. For 50 links or whatever that could be tidied up with a few passes of search and replace. I could do it for you when I get a few minutes if you'd like to paste all 50+ links.
Yeah, that would be a really quick fix in a good text editor, no problems there
Note that when you convert it to HTML, it might be better to click on the "show source" toolbar button (the rightmost one) and paste it in there, otherwise it may end up encoded (though I'm not totally sure.)
Seems reasonable to me. Maybe in the olden days there was some legitimate resistance to opening in new windows, but with browsers being tab based I don't see the problem with opening in new tabs. Just my two cents worth.
The problem for me is when I click on a link to YouTube or something and it takes me away from the originating site to the new site and I then have to try to find my way back to be original link. Not the end of the world but still annoying.
OK forgot that Youtube automatically embeds now, so bad example.
But Let's say I want to link to this website, will it open in the current page or open in a new tab
If I have several tabs open (which I usually do) it is hard to remember which one to hit the back button on so opening in a new tab is like a courtesy to my mind. As long as you don't auto spawn a hundred different windows like they do on porn sites (at least that's what I've heard they do from other people).
@Doofy do they ever resolve that tune? I feel like Sheldon in the episode of Big Bang where Aimee was trying to teach him to live life without having closure on everything (google it it is hilarious)
Since I have been on this site I can only recall maybe two or three spammer episodes. I am wondering whether ti means anything that we just had another within a couple of days of the new site being up. I also note that the spammer joined this morning and that their role was listed in the dashboard as "member" - not "noob" (wasn't there something about newcomers having that role?). I have deleted their membership and activity but I am not clear whether that has any effect on their ability to come right back - I did not see anything about banning in the users section.
In sum, wondering whether the security needs upping or not.
No, it was still set to 20k characters. I just upped it to 25k. Did that help? Is it just that you have some really long posts? In your lists, all the URLs might be upping the character count. That sample that you posted higher up this thread of the links pasted in the old BB Code is 1400 characters, so I can see how your list posts might get big in character terms.
Maybe I'll just set it to a ridiculous number. I can't think of a reason to restrict post size here.
There, you have 250k characters now. That's literally significantly longer than a short book I'm currently writing.
@Germanprof hmm, they certainly should come in as 'noob' until they've verified their email, according to the settings (you should be able to have control over them, too.) I'll have to do some experimentation.
We can also have it set so people apply for membership, that does require an admin to approve them.
That might be a better solution.
Also need to prod @xtrev into updating the DNS to stop the constant slowness.
That's why I've hesitated. In the past it was necessary to be approved. The downside, which rostasi bore the brunt of, was that it could coincide with no admins coming to the site for a week. OTOH, I'm here close to daily and have been made an admin now so maybe that will be less of a problem. The other alternative is we just put up with spam appearing for a day until an admin deletes it.

@eythian - Yes, probably so . . .
And hey ! - the internal links works again just like you said.
Now I "just" need to restore the majority of the threads list on the guide that got lost in the process..
copy>paste is unfortunately not possible so it's gonna take some time.
- And the 50+ links on my carefully put together other labels list - I can't see that happen in a foreseeable future.
Hmmmm, I just tried, I'll have another go:
This is how it looks when I copy from the old board, (a part of what vanished in the transition).

@Germanprof - thanks, so am I
- I have now learned that this new thing will eat everything you paste, Links, bolds, the lot. . . .
For mysterious reasons it seems like it won't eat anything unless write something after the paste.
(I don't need to know why)
It seems it kind of does different things at different times and I don't see a way to select an option.
And in case it isn't obvious, great job, thanks

which will cause everything in a message to open in a new window (or tab for virtually all browsers these days.) Seem reasonable?
