Am I the only one who loves listening to the orchestra tune up before an orchestral concert, that gaggle of tones slowly lining up into celestial harmony? I like music that sounds like that, and this has something of that feel in places, in a more muted vein.
@Prof, I especially like it when they're playing a familiar piece, and you hear the little bits and filigrees that make up the music you know. Reminder of the human work that goes into this music that seems like it was handed down by the gods.
@Doofy, that's right. I would love some avant garde person to make a whole recording made up of orchestras tuning up before different concerts. I kind of wish that were included on concert recordings in general, the way the best album by Jonas Reinhardt (Power of Audition) opens with the sound of the analog synthesizers warming up. To me there is something magical about hearing the harmony emerge from the fragments.
Originally I wasn't going to buy this but I am glad that I did. My initial thought was typical duet album by aged artist whose voice is going, so needs support of younger collaborators. You know the kind of thing I mean. However, Van Morrison's voice seems as good as ever, and many of the collaborators are contemporaries or near contemporaries of his. Also it is not just a rehash of his greatest hits either - no Moondance for example, including some lesser known songs. It spreads the entire range of his career and most are genuine re-workings rather than direct copies. If you like Van Morrison, this is recommended.
Athana "is a project from Stavanger/Norway with guitarist/composer Alf Terje Hana as the leader. Making all kinds of rhythmic/groovy and ambient noises, based on his compositions and curiosity to blend guitar sounds with electronics, and by fueling inspiration from great painters and nature. The U-turn he did after seeing Roni Size on tv, in 1998, is very much the point where more contemporary things started to happen..and leaving the traditional rock sound behind, but still not totally forgotten.
Arne Hovda has played a major part as a producer/technician and keyboard/edit role, in more than half of the albums released. A great team player, with years of professional experience. There is also many other musicians that have contributed with their skills, to make the sounds complete. Have a look at the “Musicians page”.
Alf Terje Hana`s main instruments are guitar and electronics, and he has recorded and played with dozens of Norwegian artists over the years like: Wasaband/Timebeat/Vestlandsfanden//Sardines/Leif&Kompisane/Erik Røe/Christian Hovda/Heine Totland/ Moi /Sebastian Waldejer /HOH/Jorunn Hodne/Astrid Kloster/Sonarophon/Alan Skurtveit"
Didkovsky / Hufnagel / Ulrich / Smith - Petromyzontiformes Vol 1 Recorded live on Jan 31, 2015 at WinterProg Festival at Spectrum, Nick Didkovsky - guitar Kevin Hufnagel - guitar Samuel Smith - guitar Tomas Ulrich - cello

John Renbourn RIP - a great folk guitarist
Craig - I really like it and it's still growing on me, but then I'm a big sucker for anything by Copeland and Blunt.
