Sometimes seems like there is just no end to Mingus, or in this case no beginning. Just discovered this one, from 1954 I think. Very much a fully formed vision, already
@greg, was just planning to revisit that one, since I have been enjoying the Joe Henderson a lot. Would love to see them take on another great pop composer one of these years. But who...Paul Simon? Leonard Cohen? (Tom Waits!)
I am home alone and listening to this at a volume that justifies the cost of my not-cheap subwoofer. I am making food in the next room and the toaster is vibrating with the music. Don't get to do this too often. Delicious.
Couple of times actually. Apparently with music that mostly lacks any conventional form it is possible not to notice that you have your player on album repeat until you start thinking that the album seems awfully long...
@thom - Haven't heard the new Lower Dens yet (I'll get to it after lunch I think), but from what I understand it's a change from the almost shoegazey Nootropics to a more new wave sound. I like the last album quite a bit, but the two early release tracks for Escape From Evil have me very excited to hear the new direction.

I really need to prune my collection. It can be so hard to find quality freebies that got buried.

Sufjan Stevens » Carrie & Lowell
Hyperbole aside, I'm thoroughly enjoying this album - makes me realize that it's been way too long between proper releases from Sufjan.

His Name Is Alive - Livonia
godspeed you! black emperor - Asunder, Sweet and Other Distress

After: Fort Romeau » Insides
Need to go back and re-listen to previous releases from both - are these better or did I just not give them enough attention before?
In the meantime:
Stunningly beautiful.
