Must've been, what, maybe 2002, and I was living on the west side of Chicago, down the street from the Empty Bottle, and read a little write-up in the Reader(?) about Greg Davis and his electronica album and how he did a neat rendition of Nick Drake piece from Bryter Later, and that he was performing that night at the Bottle. As I often did during those months I lived nearby, I walked on over, bought a beer, and now nearly twenty years later, I'm still listening to this CD.
Well, another rainy morning here. 30-50mm forecasted and I've already filled 4 barrels. I've got BPA on my mind for some reason... Sandy Ewen / Damon Smith 2013 Background Information nyp
The long-awaited second offering of elephants in the Thai jungle playing
specially designed musical instruments. The Thai Elephant Orchestra was
co-founded by Richard Lair of the Thai Elephant Conservation Center in
Lampang and performer/composer Dave Soldier. This CD is more tailored
for children than the first, and explores the far reaches of what the
ellies now perform, including lots of traditional Thai music, and even
Beethoven (the Pastorale Symphony) and Hank Williams (Kaw-liga). Guest
appearances by dance composer David First, cellist Jami Sieber, pin pia
player Smithitham, bamoolin player Muangling, saxophone sensation
Matusuda Madoka and more.
@djh How is the bonus album? Dropsonde is a classic and a lot of more recent Biosphere material has disappointed me, so seeing this package made me wary - does the bonus material rise to the challenge?
ETA: I am really loving this. Tagged "post-folk" and "electroacoustic" among other things. It;s a really nice mix of restrained electronic treatments, simple guitar, and vulnerable and beautiful vocals.

Only one and a half listens so far - to be honest I couldn't tell where the original finished and the bonus album started. I'd also forgotten about the amount of (programmed) jazzy drums. If you like the original I'd say its worthwhile. TBH none of it stands out for me, but then I was a bit non-plussed back in the day. (I'm a little more open in my listening now in terms of giving things time to settle in). Sorry not the most helpful.
Well, just another terrific day. Should be some showers coming through overnight so I can hopefully get the barrels filled up again. Man! I'm loving this retirement. Watching the garden grow is as much fun as watching owls grow up. Plus, I can listen to the rotation as long as it's close to a basement window. Also, thanks again(I hope) to @Brighternow for introducing me to Sandro Marinoni. It's put me on to a whole lot more. Stefano Ferrian
2010 Improvisations For NoSyncopated Guitars 2011 Convergence archive.org (w/ Sandro Marinoni, Stefano Roncarolo) Ps- Everything reminds me of my garden. I have about 20 giant alliums in the front garden that look just like Andrew Heath's cover as they're about to drop. Mine are about 10-15cm, deep purple and not close to finishing yet. Exquisite! - I should add that they stand about 1m tall (3') and certainly stand out against a white coloured house. Their shadows make it look doubled. --Really, a most enjoyable listen!!
2006 Voila! Ps- Even though I've just discovered that I never took it off random play from the rotation, I still really enjoyed this evenings listens, the order worked out perfect.
Yes, Penultimate Press has been costing me some bucks/krones lately. I already have a good amount of H.C. in my collection, but after he died, these guys got their hands on a large archive of his stuff that they're gonna be releasing over a period of a long time. I just received a couple of weeks ago, the very last copy of a specially packaged cassette bundle of unreleased work of Christiansen.
"Every Sublamp record has been about an imaginary space, so the concept
of pinning each release on Eilean to a fictional continent was exciting;
the perfect excuse to indulge myself in layered textural sound again.
Inspired by the cloud forests of Monteverde, Costa Rica, Lianas is an
audio map of a densely wooded
mountain range, shrouded in fog, where fern and vine drip with
condensation and small animals slip quietly through the undergrowth.
Very little computer manipulation was used in the creation of these
tracks. Most of the sound on the record is simply looped guitar through various pedals and a nice warm tube amp, sometimes recorded through an
old reel to reel tape machine for extra crackle and hiss. "
