"The First Tindersticks Album" by Tindersticks. An excellent Alternative album released in 1993.
According to AMG "Acclaimed British sextet.....Tindersticks were one of the most original and distinctive British acts of the '90s......Tindersticks were obtuse and leisurely, crafting dense, difficult songs layered with literary lyrics, intertwining melodies, mumbling vocals, and gently melancholy orchestrations. Essentially, the group filtered the dark romanticism of Leonard Cohen, Ian Curtis, and Scott Walker through the bizarre pop songcraft of .....Lee HazlewoodTindersticks crafted richly orchestrated, darkly beautiful music that often felt like soundtracks to imaginary movies"

I still listen to that album all the time. Remarkably decent bar music, too.
None of their other recordings (at least, those I've listened to so far), however, gave me the jolt their first one does.
I've been listening to lots of albums that were a sort of mass dump back up of some of my old Emusic purchases this week. This made for a nice Saturday morning drone.
Gurgly ambient. I have some other Aglaia albums that I have mentally pegged in the B+ tier - perfectly fine, not my favorites. This one really worked for me though. Maybe my ears were set right.
Jazz. Must admit I'm not quite "getting" this one yet. Maybe my ears are not so good.
On the jazz front, many thanks to @jonahpwll for linking the W.E.R.F. sampler. I enjoyed a lot of the tracks on it and already bought two of the sampled albums.
W.E.R.F. is one of my favorite off-the-beaten-path labels, and this year and last have been especially strong.
I think I'm about to enter an ECM (and ECM-adjacent) binge. I suspect the first touch of Autumn landing has something to do with it.
Just finished and just begun:
Bill Frisell & Michael White - "Motion Pictures"
Oregon - "Crossing"
I listen to that Frisell/White recording with some frequency. "Night Has a Thousand Eyes" is drop-dead gorgeous.
Been a hot minute since I listened to "Crossing." For a time, back in the day, Oregon was music I listened to frequently when I was rising at 4am to write, watch the sun light up, and other reasons. I recall it having an outstanding opening track and then being a little mediocre after that, but either my memory is faulty or the album is hitting me differently all these years later, because I am seriously enjoying this session, so far, at the album's halfway point.
Thanks for that, it's not as though artists owe their fans anything but when friends / colleagues are also left wondering. And to be a bit facile, hey we still have the music.

Also really liked another album of theirs - "To See the Next Part of the Dream"
