Paul Gray, the bassist for the metal band Slipknot, was found dead Monday morning in his Des Moines, Iowa, hotel room, according to police. He was 38.
Gray's body was found by staff at the TownePlace Suites, said Sgt. Dave Disney of the Urbandale Police Department.
An autopsy, including toxicology tests, will be performed Tuesday, said Disney, who declined to comment on reports that drug paraphernalia was found in Gray's hotel room.
Marvin Isley, bassist for the second and third incarnation of the Isley Brothers and the subsequent spin off band Isley Jasper Isley passed away recently due to complications of diabetes. He was unable to perform in recent years due to having both legs amputated. He spent this time offering himself as an example of what can happen when the disease is not properly managed and toured warning others to take proper care of themselves.
I am truly sorry to hear of the passing of Abbey Lincoln.
One time spouse and collaborator of Max Roach she was considered a vixen in her film studio days.
As she aged her music just seemed to get better as the maturity of a life well lived was reflected in the smokey resonant timbre of her vocals.
One of the things I really wanted to do in this life was to see her perform live. That goal came within a hundred miles or so of happening five or ten years ago.
But alas, God gives us free will, and sometimes we simply choose wrong.
Live life to the fullest everyday because for all we know, we may never meet again RIP

Is a world class bassist
