twinkie talk

edited September 2010 in whirling dervish
as most of you know, i'm a twinkie fan. the whole twinkie milieu. i can't get enough twinkies.

living near the trash-picking white sox tho is problematic.

it's like finding out raymond moved into the neighborhood and wants to hang out at y'er regular tavern.

but i digress.

baiting white sox fans is an enjoyable time killer.

of course, the twinks and sox square off tuesday nite - the first of a 3 game set. liriano v. danks in the opener. two of the better lefties in baseball. the sox, a veteran team looking in from the outside, are desperate. desperate men do desperate things.

desperate white sox transcend desperate.

i've gone out of my way to encourage white sox fans to do whatever it takes to see the games - swipe money from their kids, mebbe sell a couple 19 inch magnavox tv's to their mom - whatever - to get a ticket. this will be white sox baseball at its hawk harrelsoniest worse. 10bux says delmon young gets plunked.

that's it for today and i'm twinkying out.

  • Bb, believe me, as a Sox fan I would like nothing better than to rise to the bait on this. Unfortunately, the statistics on this are pretty daunting. On the front page of the Sports section this morning, they have it worked out where, even with a Sox sweep, Twins would have to pretty much fall apart (6-10) and Sox go on a tear (10-6). So we are counting on the Twins going 9-10 the rest of the way, while Sox go 13-6. Impossible no, improbable yes.

Not to mention Sox have absolutely tanked in the division this year, that's the difference. When all's said and done, the Sox are a decent team that had an incredible mid-season streak, without which they wouldn't be near this point. So, no illusions here. As Sox fans, all we ask is that you take out the damn Yankees this time!

Wait till next year etc, meanwhile I'll keep my eyes open for other smack talk oppty's on the board. ;P
  • Ah, Hawk Harrelson. The single worst announcer in the history of announcing. Very little has made laugh harder in the last couple of months than hearing his call of the Thome walk off home run when the White Sox were last in MN. Hilarious.

If the Twins even take one game in this series it's all but over. If they take two, you can turn out the lights, the Sox' party is over.

Have you had an opportunity to see Target Field, 68? It lives up to the hype.

  • Ah, Hawk Harrelson. The single worst announcer in the history of announcing.

This only shows that you have never heard the Sox radio team of Ed Farmer and Darrin Jackson.

Thome: I knew the minute he signed with the Twins, he was going to kill the Sox with a big HR sometime during the year. Knew it, knew it, knew it.

As referenced above, we are already at "all but over." Sox are capable on going on a tear where they are absolutely unbeatable, and unless that happens starting tonight....
  • Well, I heard Jackson when he used to be partnered with Hawk. He is bad too, but he learned it from watching Hawk.

Even leaving aside Hawk's over-the-top homerism (which even for a local broadcaster crosses the line), his constant berating of umps is ridiculous. I don't like Joe West anymore than any other baseball fan, but Hawk is a representative of the team and should comport himself as such.

Thome has been a gigantic addition to the Twins. I sure hope they convince him to stay around for one more year.

  • In the true AJ Pierzynski spirit, all I can say is, Delighted to hear Hawk is getting under the skin of Twins' fans. If only the same were true for the team, which I doubt very much~! The most ridiculous thing about the ump conspiracy rant is he probably thinks he's helping the team by propagating it, whereas if anything the opposite is true.

There was a downside to Thome, esp hitting behind leadfoot Konerko. Well, Juan Pierre was a great addition, but those 20-25 HRs sure look good right now.
  • Hawk's been under my skin ever since I lived in Iowa City for 7 years and could only get Chicago sports. I'm sure how that benefits the Sox though!

As for the team, yeah I don't think they care so much.

Pierre has been a surprisingly good addition for them. Too bad, Jones, Teahan, Kotsay, Peavy, et al. were abject failures. Well...not too bad for my local 9. :)

Are you guys talking about this by chance?

    nintendudes_twinkedition.jpg
  • Doofy - Apparently at least some of the Sox have things on their mind other than beating the Twins. Namely Halo.

    Teahan's response is awesome.

  • Honest to God, I have wondered what is going to happen to this country as the current generation of video game-playing males comes of age. The wimmen will have to run things, I guess.

    Dadgummit, you young whippersnappers, etc.
  • Heh. Truthfully, my parents have a Wii, my in-laws have a Playstation, and my wife and I have....Trivial Pursuit and Life.

    Craig
  • I have a Wii, PS2, PS3, Xbox and a Sega Genesis, and I still have a life!

Now if someone could just tell me how to kill the Level 4 boss in Resident Evil 4, my life could get back on track...
  • Note the capitalization froggie! I meant Life as in the The Game of Life.

    Craig
  • I assumed that's what you were talking about - mine was a play on words....
  • good evening and welcome to another edition of twinkie talk.

thome's hr off thornton was hilarious (and, yes, getting the chicago feed makes it 1000x enjoyable). and he's gone bonkers with the playoffs in site. if only we could get morneau back...

i must admit, when the yankees played the sox a few weeks back i was rooting for...a good game. mildly hoping the home team could win the last one as that's just how it ought to be - home team gets a win and the fans go home with a smile. i do like danks as a pitcher - fantasy ball a few years back made me realize how stunning his era can be. beyond that, there's not enough bean balls aimed at them to quench my desire.

i have only seen target field from tv. but i will get up there - i have a brother in lakeville who we need to visit.

i do, indeed, have an autographed harmon killebrew baseball.

i miss wimpy. but he's a tough story now and i hope he's doing well - away from the likes of hawk harrelson is the best thing for him.

    clink.
  • who is gonna pay me mah tenbux?
  • Take it out of the Yankees next month!

Wimpy has actually been around, he did a couple fill-ins on the radio this season. Good to hear him again.
  • sure did look like the case was closed when twinkie reliever crain struck out paulie on an absolutely overpowering pitch and then manny with his bat on his shoulders. who knows, mebbe he was pissed because he was on deck and paulie didn't get it done.

rios played horrible in center - not only did he drop the tough play (3 runs scored with two outs), he overthrew the cutoff man 3 times. he did manage to toss out thome at 2nd : )

i know hawk will splatter his asinine machismo with shiat like WE JUST DID NOT GET IT DONE. no, the twinks beat them in every category. the twinks own you.
  • Time to show off what is without a doubt, the best Jesse Crain baseball card collection in existence:

    Link

    Yeah, I'm a bit crazy.

    Craig
  • by the by, doofy, i am glad to hear wimpy is back behind the mic...there's something about genuinely wanting someone to do well - in the end - that truly matters. if anyone ever said a bad word about wimpy i'd take them to task.

craig. omg, my man! if jesse crain shows up at my door on halloween i'll know its you. he did a masterful job on paulie and i think its foregone to say "adios" to manny. his last days of dreadlocking around ballparks are in sight.
  • Love the Topps "retro" design!

    05ToppsHeritageWhiteBack.jpg

He needs a big ol' chaw of tobacco, though.

I'd be pretty surprised if Manny didn't find a job next year, though I guess I was pretty surprised when Jermaine Dye didn't this year.
  • Is someone censoring my posts?
  • 68 - Yeah, I actually have a game used jersey (a gift from a friend with connections) and the cleats he wore in the playoffs in 2004, too. I'm weird. I know it.

Doofy - I agree that someone will offer Manny a contract, but I have a feeling he may have the same reaction to the numbers that Dye did, and say no.

froggie - What are you trying to say?

The twinkie one, not this one.....

  • Did it look something like this?

    TwinkieTheKid.jpg
  • It's back now - in Nintendo DS.

Makes me wonder there will be a Wii (or wee-wee) version released in the near future.
  • lol - some times the game channel experience is just too trippy for its own good. according to game channel, mauer hit an inside the park home run to deep right field. tell me that ain't so. if i missed that, why, i'll eat my hat.

    twinks up 6 - 0
  • You probably already know by now, but your hat is safe. Mauer hit a blast into the right field seats.

    Craig
  • I have nothing further to add to this discussion, by the way, except possibly for additional pictures of Twinkie the Kid.
  • I don't blame you Doofy. Obviously the Twins are getting crazy breaks this series (seriously, consecutive batters get RBI on a hit that hits the third base bag then one off the plate that somehow spins fair?), but the Sox have looked pretty disinterested for the most part. I'd shut off on the Twins if they were playing like the Sox, too.
