Well done, Greg! Myself, I just figured out how to make the picture a clickable link!
This album is still under 3 bucks at Amazon, btw.
amclark, I also got the Rarum set and similarly have yet to really absorb it. I'd been thinking I'd use it as my guide to albums I wanted to fill out after the ECM drop, but that plan's on hold now, dammit.
This is one of my favourite downloads of the year, although it was released two years ago. I love the interplay of kora and trumpet.
Badthoughts - I prefer this to the Sissoko/Segal release - but I still do like it. Partly it depends upon your tastes - this is less classical than Chamber Music
I downloaded this several months ago - it came out the same day as Afrocubism. But somehow I havn't played it before now, probably because it was overshadowed by its more well known competitor that I've played a number of times. I'm really liking it. Think early Santana, maybe add a bit of early Chicago, then add a West African influence through the Kora. You are then about there
Leapfrogging from Bad-Thoughts' rec. for Single Bullet Theory, found this incredible garage/punk/free jazz comp.:
This 1976 compilation was transcribed directly from one of the earliest two-sided EvaTone Sound Sheets (pressed on translucent red plastic); the original master has been lost. One thousand copies were distributed in three-color, silk-screened gatefold sleeves.
We now refer to recordings made between 1970 and 1981 by the following artists and all the bands descended from the Artifacts/yclept community as "Analog Music from a Lost World." Newer, more comprehensive collections will follow this one.
Record conceived and produced by Dennis Madigan, drummer for X-Breed and later, Single Bullet Theory.

Don Cherry was working the Indo-Jazz fusion thing, with a liberal dose of outer-spaciness, back in the mid-70s.
Great ! , Thanks Bad Thoughts
Such a lovely album !
You can get the CD today at Amazon for $5.99 - chew on that, eMonster.
It may not be Exile in Guyville, but it's still a pretty good album.

I got this from mordac a while ago and haven't given it anywhere near enough attention.
