  • I doubt they even know how to get rid of it!
  • If they tried there would certainly be lots of technical hitches and oops etc. On the way they may not even get the quality right. And of course, you wouldn't be able to redownload it once you've read it and the 'major' independent contributors would leave first anyway. But hasn't that last one happened already??

Here's today's pronouncement from the Mouthpiece of Sauron ( I edited that to fit the text)-
    Hi everyone -
I’m afraid we don’t have a good response for this question. This would be very complicated for us to implement and brings up a host of issues we are unable to comment on due to sensitivities of our label partners. We do suggest you back up your downloads as you would other files, and if you have technical problems that are not addressed with the “re-try” feature, please contact Customer Service.

Please understand that any response made here has typically been filtered through a few layers, both to get an understanding of the issue and a consensus on how to respond to it. I personally am in favor of transparency and lobby for it whenever possible. We sympathize with members who are angry and understand they want to express that, but to criticize me for responses made on behalf of the company as whole is not only unfair, it’s incorrect.

    Thanks,
    Cathy

    Whaaaa?
  • trans: She would like to be more direct if she could, but she can't.

As one who is hanging on over there, I wish people would get off the re-DL thing--they are not coming back--and keep the heat on the UMG thing!
  • This inability to download thing is what's about to push me over the edge. I really don't want to refresh and find that I can't download.
  • what's this? Not really promoted at all on emusic, but maybe why 17dots and the message boards seem devoid of any official presence lately.
  • i spotted it on emusic's facebook page. if i understand it correctly, emusic is going to take a bus to various big cities and, at a specified venue/time, show video feeds of bands performing on a big screen (or maybe projected onto a huge wall, something like that). acts like no-age and best-coast would be featured.

anyway that's what i got from the facebook page. i assume there's more to it.
  • This space reserved for jokes about the "eMusic bus." What could possibly go wrong?

I've been ignoring the "cannot download" thread, assuming that it was the usual DLM-related complaints. Will soon find out, I finally reload at end of week.
  • If it is any help, I've been able to download sans problems since the DL issue cropped up. The only thing that I have noticed is if you have a stack of downloads queued up the files last to go may end up showing as red/failed on their corresponding web page. YMMV.

I've downloaded several things in the last week without issue. The only complication I've found is that if multiple tracks are downloaded separately from a page the DLM may not keep up well, and if downloads are in temporary suspension on the desktop before being processed by the DLM those may become a red button on the page briefly . I haven't had them not download however.

Edit - FWIW I refreshed today and had no problem DL'ing Rock'N'Roll Gumbo by Professor Longhair.
  • Well, Jonah got a refund for sound quality issues on an ECM album. That would seem to be an admission that such quality issues exist, so the next step would be....
  • So, I can watch videos of bands on the emu website that emu is going to then drive computer screens on a bus across America to show me. Why not just stream them on their website and spend the gas money on something useful? I don't get it.
  • Bonus points for using the word "monies". It's important that we keep that alive.
  • That would seem to be an admission that such quality issues exist, so the next step would be....
If I've learned anything about that other place, it's that they'll choose individual solutions for collective problems--refunds will come to those who complain only.
  • Someone over there posted a link to the executive bios, and I'm kind of laughing about Daniel Stein's:
A serial entrepreneur, Daniel Stein is president of JDS Capital Management, Inc., an investment firm based in New York that invests in private, public and distressed debt and equity.

Just wondering under what circumstances being described as a "serial entrepreneur" would be considered a good thing...
  • I'm surprised they didn't give members like $5.00 to blow or at least bribe us into silence.
