Educating myself on a Sunday morning. I only knew the last track That’s How I Escaped My
Certain Fate and the first single (not on here) Academy Fight Song.
Also I hadn't realised the connection with Birdsongs of the Mesozoic, doh!
I saw Clint Conley (bassist) on Friday night north of Boston, MA at the amazing "Nuggets Celebration" hosted by Lenny Kaye that also featured Peter Buck, members of The Cars, Hugo Burnham (Gang of 4) and a number of other Boston-area music legends.

Sounds like a very good night! I was just writing elsewhere that Boston had a lot of (good) things to answer for.
Level 42 Back to the 80's At the beginning of their career, Level 42 was squarely a jazz-funk fusion band, contemporaries of fellow Brit funk groups like Atmosfear, Light of the World, Incognito, and Beggar & Co. By the end of the ’80s, however, the band — whose music was instantly recognizable from Mark King’s thumb-slap bass technique and associate member Wally Badarou’s synthesizer flourishes — had crossed over to the point where they were often classified as sophisti-pop and dance-rock, equally likely to be placed in the context of Sade and the Style Council as any group that made polished, upbeat, danceable pop/rock.

And who but Leonard Cohen to listen to next, on my favourite album of his "Songs of Leonard Cohen"
As AMG says "Many artists work their whole career to create a work as singular and accomplished as Songs of Leonard Cohen, and Cohen worked this alchemy the first time he entered a recording studio; few musicians have ever created a more remarkable or enduring debut". I couldn't agree more.
Ligiana Costa Ligiana Costa studied classical singing in Den Haag (NL), Italy and France, where she received a PhD at Tours University.
Meanwhile, Ligiana began singing Brazilian music and performed in France and Italy singing samba until she returned to Brazil and released her first album, De Amor e Mar.
EVA (Errante Voz Ativa / Errant Active Voice) brings Ligiana's own songs and some partnerships entirely arranged for voices only, either processed or natural. The making of the voice as the main communication and artistic expression tool is at the same time a primitive act, but also contemporary in how to arrange and conceive music with the use of technology and pop formulas and modern sound trends.
Each song carries the name of a woman, in the present, the past or imagined times, the private and the collective. With this work she performed on various stages (from Dakar to Garanhuns, from Bulgaria to Brasilia)
Lili Boniche Lili Boniche (Élie Boniche - b. 1921 - d. March 6, 2008), born to a Sephardic Jewish family in the Kasbah area of Algiers, was a singer of Andalusian-Arab music. He died in Paris. In addition to writing music for commercial release, he also was a film composer.
"Singles Going Steady" a 1979 compilation album by the Buzzcocks
AMG says of the band "With their crisp melodies, Pete Shelley's biting lyrics, and Shelley's and Steve Diggle's driving guitars, Buzzcocks were one of the most influential bands to emerge in the initial wave of British punk rock"
and of the album "If Never Mind the Bollocks and London Calling are held up as punk masterpieces, then there's no question that "Singles Going Steady" belongs with them"
As @rostasi said back in December 2018 when Pete Shelley died "Always BIG love for The Buzzcocks. One of the best live shows I've ever seen", so looking forward to seeing them live when they come to Melbourne in November.

That's my late teen years right there. Never did see them live even though I grew up just a few miles from Manchester. In fact I recall the cheap thrill I had when I found out that Steve Diggle lived (allegedly) just a couple of miles from me.
Even though I've just bought and am enjoying Audion #78 I'm still re-reading #15. This is the latest pleasant surprise.
Luciano Dari - Wajd
The review says:
I bet most of you have forgotten about
Luciano, but If you look back to Audion #7
p.24 you'll see that on his debut (back to
back with The Hafler Trio) I quoted him as
being 'a talent to watch out for', and
although this new release is totally
different in style, it certainly lives up to all
expectations.
Luciano's style has moved away from
electronics towards the realms of
manipulated sound, but not of the avantgarde "classical" type, rather the industrial
inspired area often explored by The Hafler
Trio, Dreaming Together, Asmus
Tietchens, etc. The three tracks on side 1
are all purely atmospheric sonic
constructions, cyclic, hypnotic and
captivating. The second side however,
offers four other angles on his style,
moving into ethnic, abstract electronic and
other indescribably innovative realms.
A fascinating LP of sonic construction
from a most unique Italian talent.
