Hello campers, not sure where the time went this week, I hope you've all bought the new Taylor Swift "suprise" album! In the meantime I've been learning a bit more about this man.
And following on from that (a YouTube rip at an ugly 128kbps) - I've just realised that Prestige are on Bandcamp albeit not this album. So did I already know that? All the usual suspects, too many compilations etc but even so.
Another recently released album which, somewhat to my surprise, I really enjoyed. "Prelude to Ecstasy" by The Last Dinner Party.
AMG says "London's The Last Dinner Party combine maximalist pop grandeur with hook-filled baroque indie rock to create bold modern stadium anthems that evoke the art-pop acumen of artists like Sparks, Kate Bush, and Siouxsie and the Banshees."
Listened to it on a recommendation from my daughters. I'll need to listen to them more often, in future!
"Dark Shadows" by Cold Sun, a Psychedelic/Progressive Rock album issued in 1989 but actually recorded in 1970.
This outstanding but obscure band is described by Discogs and Progarchives as "An obscure but legendary psychedelic progressive outfit", the albumby Guerrsen Records on Bandcamp as "Vivid peyote-induced psychedelia from Texas sounding like an impossible meld between the Elevators and the Velvet Underground but possessing a strongly unique disposition......(a) spell-binding (album)" and Jello Biafra calls Dark Shadows “the best psychedelic album I know of”.
The music reminds me somewhat of The Doors and I particularly like the first two tracks "South Texas" and "Twisted Flower". Definitely my find of the year, so far!
If you're into 1960s/70s obscure Psychedelic Rock you can't do better than to head to Guerssen Records on Bandcamp.
