I only discovered this album last week, there's some extravagent praise on Bandcamp but if you like Psych with heavy guitars and a country touch in places...
Really excellent. Sounds at times like what godspeed you black emperor would sound like with choirs added. This description is about right, though there's more percussion and guitar on this one than it mentions:
Since 2011’s Haeligewielle, the composer and
instrumentalist, aka Londoner Oliver Barrett, has been constructing
epic, blistered soundscapes that take tropes familiar from underground
music – long-form drones, worn, sun-bleached synth washes, fuzzy white
noise and field recordings – and use them to create a kind of
contemporary devotional music.
As such, Petrels sidesteps the chilliness found in much of the music
of his peers, replacing it instead with an almost spiritual ecstasy, his
ravishing synths and almost choral vocal treatments calling out in
cosmic, wide eyed wonder at the universe.
Louis Dufort(Montréal, 1970) has a bachelor’s degree in electroacoustic composition from the Faculty of Music of the Université de Montréal as well as a master’s degree from the Conservatoire de musique de Montréal, where he received a first prize with distinction. But university studies have not altered his iconoclasm and originality: his passion for electronic music and his love of cinema, painting and contemporary dance lead him to incorporate elements in his composition that are drawn from beyond music. He currently divides his time between composing for the Marie Chouinard contemporary dance company (he composed the music for the choreography of Le cri du monde, which premiered in Toronto on 21 March 2000), his work with the artistic committee of ACREQ, and the creation of hybrid and unbridled musical experimentation.
Well, I don't know if I'll ever get around to listening them again but these folks were part of my 80's so I'll spend some time to listen to some old and some new. I only have the first 4 on vinyl. Love And Rockets
I was inocently listening to this and trying to find out more about the piece when I discovered that it was used in The Shinning - a film I've yet to see more than the first 20 minutes of. Volume 2 is the section of the Resurrection, the first part is the Entombment of Christ. I'd like to hear a good recording of the first part - both are on YouTube in their usual low quality.
One of the problems with archive.org stuff is that it's often crap quality. It's as if they went to bargain shops and bought a buttload of albums for 5 bucks and decided to upload them there. Mine are never that bad in quality 'cause I've tried to take care of them.
"Prophecy" 2013 Progressive Rock album by English band Solstice
ProgArchives, which rates the album no. 14 for 2013, says "English outfit SOLSTICE have made a name for themselves as an act playing melodic progressive rock with strong leanings towards neo progressive in sound, classic 70's symphonic rock in expression - tinged with elements from folk music. Similarities to CAMEL, YES and MOSTLY AUTUMN have been drawn when describing the band"

Many thanks that recording on archive.org has certainly seen better days. I will have a look around my usual shops for a cd version. Though I think it may be OOP.
I *highly* recommend this ambient work from this local band (Lexington, KY) that I stumbled upon by way of a bookstagram post and a live show at a neighborhood joint. It has some of that early-period Califone folk-ish influence superimposed over early-period Spiritualized ambient drug rock. I find it both comforting and mesmerizing.
Mammoth Cave II - "One Railroad Thousands of Miles Long"
I have no explanation for the band name, but there's a Mammoth Cave state park in eastern Kentucky and maybe this is just a ludicrous riff on that? But it's so good.
