Funny that I was getting worried that we weren't listening to music any more, as there were only 2 posts on this thread during the first 10 days of December. I'll readily admit that I was a guilty party!
However, we made up for it with 28 posts in the second 10 days of the month!
I noticed the same thing, and also contributed my own absence. Lately (last half year at least) I have been sufficiently tired and preoccupied from the demands of work (enjoyable demands, but more than plentiful) that it has been hard to muster enthusiasm or emotional energy for seeking out new music. And (likely the flipside of the same thing) I have been finding pleasure in spending time with old favorites that have already worn deep grooves in my brain. Time will tell if this too will pass or if I am running out of steam.
I've been going through my CD rack looking for things I have not listened to in ages to see if I can do any culling to make a little space. This one is from 2006 and I seem to remember was not easy to get hold of at the time; of course it's on bandcamp now. It's enjoyable enough to hang on to. (I am not good at culling.)
Nice little ambient recording. I have another from kj called "Spells," which I've enjoyed for years. I guess I never looked to see if they had other recordings, or maybe I had but the unfriendly search term "kj" didn't bring anything up. I only discovered "ex" because I was on the Dronarivm site looking for a different artist.
I think somebody here in this thread turned me onto this album. Maybe GermanProf. Really enjoying this for early morning music when I'm just not ready to face what the day has got planned for me.
It wasn't until just now that I realized the lights are a bunch of cats eyes. Was briefly available on ECM Records Bandcamp page, now gone along with the rest of it.
OK, so this one has a story. I was tidying up some old gmail and came across an exchange with a drummer I emailed after seeing his jazz band live in Sydney during a visit to Australia. It was a tiny venue, with maybe 15 people in attendance, but the music had a great groove, and the band, Coast, mentioned they were working on an album. I emailed them to ask if they could point me to it when it came out. The drummer replied and said he would, but apparently never got around to it, and I forgot about it.
Fast forward 7 years and I happened upon the email, and some googling revealed this:
"Nonagon Infinity", 2016 album by Australian Psychedelic/Progressive/Jazz/Jam Rock band (yes, they are a real mix of styles!) King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard.
All Music Guide says "King Gizzard's inventive sound, giant hooks, and hard-as-titanium playing make Nonagon Infinity not only their best album yet, but maybe the best psych-metal-jazz-prog album ever".
Ranked No. 2 album for the year 2016 by ProgArchives and No. 9 by Rate Your Music.
Think Zappa circa 1974 similar line-up and humour including band leader in Ruth Underwood percussion role but no lead guitar. Some humorous vocal interjections but mainly instrumental.
