Finally! My last purchases went through, and there's but 9 cents in my account.
My last purchases were:
Robert Pete Williams (s/t) -- rural blues from Louisiana
Fast Fall and Rise of the South by Kingsbury Manx
Dusk by Andrew Hill
Songs for My Funeral by Nostalgia 77
Blackjack David by Dave Alvin
Inspiration Information 2 by Horace Andy
Last of their Kind by Joe and Janette Carter (lesser known members of Carter Family)
Akuma No Uta by Boris
Pyramids (s/t) -- few tracks
OK, that was $39 in credit spent since Sunday (when I started panicking). I need a break from buying music.
Might want to re-try...I just spent my last 46 cents! DLs continue to be downright normal. I even successfully "bought" a couple free tracks, just to see if I could do it. Maybe a truckload of servers arrived from Amazon HQ overnight...
This is their typical purchasing problem. I doubt it's a REC thing because I definitely used at least 5 or 6bucks in REC money yesterday. That's all I've got left at this point.
Very frustrating as I had pretty much picked out all my final purchases...
Argh! Somebody else screwed me with Tru Thoughts again! I had like 6 albums that would have come in under 20 bucks and had to drop 2 of them because their prices skyrocketed! All in a matter of minutes...
Finally managed a couple of purchases just now - still slooooowwwwww.
May I just point out there are 2 live Roy Buchanan albums available for under $4 - American Axe '74 is really good, and worthy of Roy's legacy for anybody who wants to hear the first World's Greatest Unknown Guitar Player.
And 2 Danny Gatton albums - Unfinished Business for under $4 - and 2 with him and Tom Principato under $2!
Shoot. Apparently I should have used up the last of my RECs on the Tru Thoughts stuff! Oh well, I only have like 12 left anyway, so not really worth it.
The "September Downloads" thread should be epic in a few weeks.
I am having mixed success on purchasing now, although the rec-cashout system is working as well as it ever did. I suppose that is not a compliment. Downloads are consistent, not fast but at least they are not re-setting this afternoon.
I did get a response from the rejuvenated Customer Service department on my repeated complaint about the Hot Tune Boneroo show, they credited me $3, fifty cents more than I paid.
So I'm a sucker. I had some bad rips from a Truth & Soul album that I reported to CS and they credited me $8.98. I bought a Four Tet and some more Fela Kuti, but after looking around at the pricing for his albums I impulsively decided to give AS another $20 bucks to finish the entire collection. Gratefully, all transactions processed with 0 problems, and I know own some 46 Fela albums that I probably paid less than $50 for all of them. :-S
Craig, didn't you get the bad news kiss-off e-mail from Amie? It had the Amazon $5 code in it. I used mine the first night to soften the blow of buying the deluxe version of Strange New Flesh by Colosseum II which I had had my eye on for a little while - could not find Colosseum II anyplace else - weird. They weren't like that obscure I thought.
@elwoodicious - I thought I was the "ballsy" one! I'm about 75% sure I'll be buying some more credit so that I can finish off some kranky, Southern Lord, and Tru Thoughts albums. But I"m going to wait another day to see if things get a little smoother (it certainly seemed better earlier, but is offline again).
@jUj - Now's a bad time to start building street cred.
@Craig - Check your spam folder. It should have the subject line: "An Important Message From AmieStreet.com - Please Read".
I had an alternative account that was not very active, and it did not get the $5 coupon. I'm not sure I ever funded that account with actual dollars. I did get the "please read" e-mail, just no code.
>My "Important Message" email did not have an Amazon $5 code.
The first one I received did not have a code, the second did. I had an alt-account which has been virtually inactive since they were giving away money for joining, it did not receive a code, but did get the "we're closing" email. My daughter got just the code-email, but she rarely used Amie. No pattern to the codes, possible that they will some come.
Saturday Morning, I am getting satisfaction on downloads, but I cannot buy anything. I am all rec'ed out and have $30 left to spend. I was hoping to wash my hands of Amie this weekend, since RL is busy next week.
I realize it is a bad time to start building street cred at Amie but there is a method to my madness.
I figure while all you wusses are abandoning ship at Amie I will be on the upswing in street cred. And sometime just before midnight on the 22nd I will be the baddest ass on Amie Street and you all will be my bitches. I will go down in history forevermore as the reigning king of Amie the day they closed up shop.
Or
Maybe I want to use my dollar and whatever credits I can create with my remaining recs to maybe weasel a few more free tracks of music out of Amie before they get to the bank and cash that big ass check from Amazon.
FWIW I only DL'd a couple albums worth of music and I never put one nickel of cash money in Amie but I liked the concept and would have purchased more from them if I had the time to play and couldn't find it at the other place more cheaply.
I also received an e-mail, but no code. It had been awhile since I'd bought anything from them. I have somewhere around 2.35 in REC cred, but don't feel like cashing it out in 4 cent increments.
My email came on Wednesday morning (8 Sep), and the code (very small print) was in the body of the email, as well as this:
We want to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for all of your support, help, patience and enthusiasm, and we sincerely hope youll continue with us on our journey with the new Songza.com.
I pulled up the Songza page, but didn't explore the stations. Looks like 3 of the Amie Street guys are connected with this site.
I managed to download more than 9 gig of stuff in the last two days. I think I got everything that seems remotely interesting from my history. I'm toying with the idea of getting more credit too - I still have a 50% off sale.
My email with bonus code was in my Spam folder too.
Finally managed to spend the last of my real money and cash a few recs. I've got a couple recs worth a few cents and 26 unused ones. I don't think I'll be able to catch jackedUPjazz with those, especially with no new stuff being added.
Well I'll be, they are running a 50% off sale. (Independent of the "Sony link," which I assume is what Thom is talking about above.) That is kind of a nice gesture, now that things are working again.
That 50% is probably a server side cookie - if you have clicked on the Sony link within the last 1-2 weeks, it will show up anytime you login. It took almost two weeks to disappear that last time I clicked on the Sony link...

I WAS done, but I've had more money refunded. Another $10 to burn through. I'm fatigued.
I did get a response from the rejuvenated Customer Service department on my repeated complaint about the Hot Tune Boneroo show, they credited me $3, fifty cents more than I paid.
But now I have a street cred of 19 a cash balance of $1.00 and apparently I can still cash out recs for 11 tracks on a Marvin Gaye live album.
I used my $5 crack giveaway at Amazon immediately on a CD that was in my wish list for $7 so that was kind of cool
But what do I do now with my Amie Street credits. Do I get more money by recing my album or do I just cash out my dollar
