Hello
First Post!
Just testing. Will be adding categories to match all those at eMu. Maybe a few more. Also intend to keep this as plain and simple looking as possible to avoid scaring off those of us who like the words more than the pictures of cats and huge signatures.

Starting to try and customise this a little now. Which is hard given that I know absolutely nothing about mySQL :-)
The free host I'm using doesn't allow emails to be sent, so for now anyone that wants to join will need to be activated by me manually.
I'll keep an eye on it fairly regularly so it shouldn't take too long.
Ground rules, you say? Hmmm...
Play nice.
Try not to be too illegal.
er...
Don't do anything I wouldn't do?
...I'm sure we'll work it out just fine.
One more thing, this forum malarkey is all new to me and I'll do my best, but if you post anything amazing that you don't want to risk vanishing into some bizarre internet black hole, I'd suggest keeping a copy yourself somewhere.
Just in case.
They appear on screen for the sender and recipient only.
Not sure if they are supposed to show in your 'Account' page or not as that doesn't seem to be working right now for some reason.
Obviously some more tinkering required.

I'll probably link straight to the forums and save everyone the extra click eventually, but I thought it only polite to welcome you in properly to start with :-)
Which is one of the reasons I chose it :-)
I had intended to customise it more, but ran out of patience and decided to stop dithering.
The splash screen and the text in the banner heading are all my own work though!
The username entered as the whisper recipient could not be found.
Hello and thanks for the refuge
I'd love to add something like that, though.
Maybe if I switch over to Mutex Hosting Inc (free-er than free!) we can persuade him to do it for us.
In the meantime, I think muxtape.com is really cool.
I haven't checked out muxtape.com yet. One of these days I will.

Hey!
Now I'm here can I be the first to ask "Where the music"? I can't find any music I like on this site. it's all hidden well away, but if you delve deep enough there's all that top 40 stuff stashed away here. Where the REAL music?
For mixtapes, I recommend 8tracks. You can make the mixtape you want (within the rules, which are quite reasonable) vs. trying to make something out of freely downloadable tracks. Also, you won't have the problem of downloads being pulled and breaking your mixtape. While it wouldn't be much trouble to create functionality similar to Mixtaper, I think 8tracks is a better way to go. The only downside is you can't publish the track listing. I presume if the track list appeared on the web, 8tracks would have to pull the mix because they could no longer stream it under the webcasting rules.
Here's some history some may not know. Gosatango's original incarnation of Mixtaper made mixes exclusively from eMusic tracks. This was in the unlimited download days, so you could download the mix if you were an eMusic subscriber. When unlimited ended, the mixtapes suddenly became less apealing. (edit: Specifically, the direct download links could cause people to accidentally use their downloads. GSG removed the old mixes to prevent this. /edit) I suggested a few modifications to let folks make mixes with freely downloadable tracks. Even with the constraint of having to find downloadable tracks, folks made many great mixtapes.
