- "Guitarist Loren Connors was born in New Haven, Connecticut in 1949. Best known as a composer and improviser, Connors has issued over 50 guitar records on his own imprints (Daggett, St. Joan, Black Label) since the late 1970s and over two dozen on other labels across the globe. He has recorded under the names Guitar Roberts, Loren Mattei, Loren MazzaCane Connors and other variations. Connors' singular adpation of the blues is a distinct personal vision combining the Delta bottleneck sound and the ancestral blues voice (appearing as distortion, baying hounds or multi-tracked guitar), with hauntingly unexpected sounds. Outside of Connors' three decades of solo work, he has collaborated with Suzanne Langille, Jim O'Rourke, Darin Gray, Alan Licht, Christina Carter, Keiji Haino, San Agustin, Jandek and many others, as well as leading the group Haunted House. He lives in Brooklyn, NY.
Two albums were relesaed in 2011: The Red Mars is the first CD of new solo Connors music since 2004's The Deaparting of a Dream Vol III: Juliet. Since that time, Connors' unmistakable electric blues style presented on album has changed somewhat -- from multilayer tape-recorded pieces to spontaneous live performances. It's full of the cinematic pacing, lyricism and a palette of phantom tones that hoist Connors to a stunning new peak. What a surprise: Haunted House band is back: Blue Ghost Blues LP/CD, is the scond album from Connors, Suzanne Langille, Neel Murgai and Andrew Burnes. A heavy, blues based rock sound anchored by Langille's fire moan."

Now, their collective which includes the Poets of Rhythm, Whitefield Brothers, Karl Hector & The Malcouns and the vocalist Bajka present a series of rare funk, jazz, soul and world-psych singles compiled as Original Raw Soul III. i am sitting in front of a sheet of paper. my right hand is bending over my left thumb. the first day i got out of my cast i could bend it by 15°. now i am already at 50° and that makes me happy. things are going uphill...
as you can imagine, it is really bad news for a pianist when he gets diagnosed with a broken thumb. that day i was sitting in the emergency room, feeling rather dizzy while thinking of a zillion shows coming up and all the people involved around it. i realised in that moment how busy things have become. it is hard to turn down interesting projects and opportunities, since i surely love my work. it actually never felt like work. playing piano and playing it for wonderful people is the greatest joy i can imagine.
for a couple of days i felt like this all could be over. how pathetic. but hey also feeling sorry for yourself has its place somewhere. all of a sudden i had so much time, an unexpected holiday. i cancelled most of my schedule and found myself being a little bored. even though my doctor told me not to touch a piano for a while, i just couldn't resist. i started playing a silent song with 4 fingers on my left and the remaining 5 on my right hand. i set up one microphone and recorded another tune every other night before falling asleep.
the day i got rid of my cast i had recorded 9 little tunes. they have helped me feel less annoyed about my accident and reminded me that any good is something i can only achieve, when i am making the most out of what i've got.
Death Grips planned to issue two albums this year. Epic, however, won't give them a release date on the second one until next year. So when they turned the album in to the label yesterday they also posted it for free here. Caution: The album cover is seriously NSFW. It's the album title written on a close up of an erect penis.
Yeah, I think their relationship with Epic is over.
Lowlife found these, I'm just cross-posting because I don't think they've been put on the free stuff thread. These are both free downloads for an email address at Bandcamp:

- "Twelve years ago, the vintage recordings website Dawn of Sound released a compact disc collection of public domain early recording artifacts called Voices of Christmas Past. The recordings were cylinders and acetates from 1898 to 1922. Every year after the release, the website was inundated with requests for the CD. Once it was out of print, Dawn of Sound released it online for free."
From the original liner notes: - "Of all things Christmas nothing is more traditional than the singing of carols and songs. Songs that capture in lyrics and in music the many traditions that we have at Christmas the birth of the Christ child, the Christmas tree, the opening of gifts and even sleigh rides. Any well dressed sleigh ride featured those cheery sounding bells attached to the horses harness. In fact one of the most beloved Christmas songs ever, Jingle Bells celebrates this sound and the spirit of a country sleigh ride. On October 30, 1889 banjoist Will Lyle made history by recording Jingle Bells, the very first Christmas record. Although no known copies of this record survive one of the earliest vocal examples of Jingle Bells does survive on an Edison brown wax cylinder entitled, Sleigh Ride Party. It was made a decade later and was reissued for the first time on this CD (now out of print). This collection of carols, songs and monologues from the original vintage recordings capture the essence of the Christmas spirit as it was in the opening two decades of the 20th Century. So gather up the family, wind up the phonograph and take a trip back in time to the early 1900?s and celebrate the holidays with the Voices of Christmas Past. http://www.dawnofsound.com/
