Not
sure how I happened upon this. Not going to post the quite disturbing
cover art. But the music is quite beautiful. Ambient shoegazey female
vocals - not usually quite my sweeet spot, but remarkably well done and
free at bandcamp (not even NYOP).
AMG says Sea Oleena is between ambient dream pop and experimental post-folk. Drawing from your description and listening I thought more slowcore electronic shoegazey, but in any case very nice indeed.
Sea Oleena is one of my five or ten favorite new artists of the last 20 years, and "Insomnia Plague" (from her Sleeplessness EP) is one of my five favorite tracks of the last 20 years. (Admittedly, that may be because I'm a lifelong insomnia sufferer, but all of her records are great.)
Anyway, if you like her, I can also recommend a more recent release, Paradise Gardens by White Poppy - though it's significantly less dark and melancholic. But both of these artists are young women from Canada who record under assumed names, so there's that.
(I'm also a huge fan of Shana Falana, but she comes from New York and sounds nothing like Sea Oleena.)
Well, to make a short story long, I couldn't bear to watch the news any longer yesterday and headed to my iTunes alphabet for refuge and found a friend I hadn't visited since sometime before 2017 when the old computer broke down. I lost some albums I didn't have backed up on an external hard drive but I did manage to reload some from my old Emusic account and one day I hope to get around to retrieving the missing albums and pictures that were on it. Firstly, I want to thank @kargatron and @Brighternow for helping me find so many interesting folks in the Gimmie 10 Experimental thread back in the old Emusic days. I'm not sure if I would have ever found these without all the suggestions. This particular thread has been the source for a good portion of my iTunes library so a big thank you for all that have made suggestions here. Although I've stopped downloading most various/sampler albums this is one of the best sets in my collection. I did manage to replace all the missing ones from the 7 An Anthology Of Noise & Electronic Music albums in that series and found Scott Gibbons (Lilith) in Vol. 3. It was only a short excerpt but I thought it was really interesting that someone could make such incredible sounds using stones as the source for the music. I can't help but feel connected to the earth hearing those sounds and can't wait to get out into the garden and practice digging in the compost pile as it tries to defrost.
Scott Gibbons / Lilith - Reciprocal (excerpt from Crag on the album Stone) For the first time ever I broke someone's heart at Bandcamp today after a couple? of listens to the excerpt from Stone. Overstayed my welcomed and had to watch that little heart break away in pieces when I clicked the button of guilt. I guess that's why I only like to listen from my library.
The only other album I came across was a collaboration with Chiara Guidi on The Cryonic Chants. A truly terrific album, it contains portions of everything I've come to find most enjoyable about experimental music including beautiful voices, a good bit of orchestrated randomness and it also makes me think of owls as the album closes out and I turn up the volume because I think I can hear something as it's slowly fading when that last 60 seconds of adrenaline kicks in while I scramble to turn down the volume. It really is an album that requires a full listen to appreciate the journey he takes you on. Probably more suited for headphones but I just can't bring myself to wear them. My last.fm tells me I've listened to the album 6 times including the 3 times since yesterday, I thought it would be more.
Secondly, I've tried my best over the years to remember to re-search some of the really interesting artists from the series as I work my way through the alphabet and what luck for me as I searched archive.org to find these. I'm feeling a bit guilty for downloading free tracks when the artist is selling them at Bandcamp but I'm doing it anyway. I'll hope they'd understand that if I could afford to (and I have) I'd pay my share. I do really appreciate the opportunity to hear these so I thank them greatly for that. That said, as always there's some editing and tweaking to do on the downloads from the archive and these are no exception. I've recently come across some interesting albums uploaded by https://archive.org/details/@45minutes, so thanks to him too.
Scott Gibbons Since he started doing performing in 1988 with the New Elementals in Dallas, Texas, Scott Gibbons has written several soundtracks, dance pieces and sound installations for art galleries. He took a double major in Philosophy and Religious Studies and an MA in History of Religions. His field is music as it relates to the religious experience and (in this context) contributes to altereted states of consciousness
Stone - first part of the Lilith trilogy published by Sub Rosa from 1992 to 1995. This recording is made exclusively with stones: struck, smashed, grated, granite or clay - all voices are stone, the photographs reproduced here were produced by a process involving the progressive overexposure of a sculpture by Hubert Kiecol. We don't know to what extent we are indebted to the Disciple Divinity House of the University of Chicago.
Orgaziarchive.org Note- Rats, unfortunately these downloads have no sound. Oh well, sometimes they just turn up after years of looking, sometimes they don't, I don't mind waiting till I can afford one to add to my library.
LILITH's second album is inspired by an organisation of the English writer and black mage Aleister Crowley (right). Before World War II this highly ambiguous caracter infiltrated the Golden Dawn of the Outside sect, which ranked Nobel Prize winner W.B. Yeats and the creator of Dracula, Bram Stocker among its members. After he had dissolved this sect, Crowley went on to found his own: Astrum Argentum; he organized orgiastic rituals (which in Italy will lead to the death of one person; Crowley is subsequently banished from the country). He goes by the names THE BEAST or 666, and writes "Magic in Theory and Practice" among other books. When World War II is declared, he suggests a sure means to victory to Churchill. ORGAZIO combines structures taken from Crowley 's magic formulas with his own voice (rare documents); it also uses real cosmic recordings (courtesy of the Adler Planetarium of Chicago). Some of these sounds appear on the limit of audibility; others create an eerie phenomenon of "disconnection".
Redwing - last part of the Lilith trilogy published by Sub Rosa from 1992 to 1995. Redwing explores with Rachel Wilson 's voice, the deep power of sexual energy. All the record is based on the micro-phenomena manipulation of her voice. These recordings based on vital cycles of the human being effectively create a net of hot points in the center of the body - sexually effective - listen in the dark - not alone.
The recordings on this album are compiled from five different live performances but are presented as one continuous mix: - The Lab's Granular Synthesis Showcase "Particle System" (Chicago - USA) : Jun-13-98 - Comandini Theatre (Cesena - Italy) : Feb-21-98 - A/R/S Electronica Festival (In A Tunnel Under The City Of Linz - Austria) : Sep-8-97 - E/S/P Convention (Normal - USA) : May-2-97 - The Double Door (Chicago - USA) : Nov-15-96
Lastly, these albums have been a terrific escape from the lunacy in Europe. I feel so sad for my grandkids and all the children who've already suffered so much mental anguish through the pandemic now have to endure these terrible times. For What? An "idea" that knowing will cost the lives of an unthinkable number of people. How could any SANE person put us through this and how could anyone not condemn this brutal assault on everyday decent people.

Many thanks for the heads up about this label. Because I'm sure I have a mild case of OCD I went straight back to their first five releases and am listening now. That's an awful lot of music to get to grips with, but I certainly enjoyed the first two albums
