The Bessarin Quartet have available a free download of a live concert from Moscow, I was hoping that E Music would have new album but it seems that this sadly is not the case.

The latest installment in Robyn Hitchcock's 'Phantom 45' series is “There Goes The Ice” — featuring KT Tunstall and written on an expedition to the North Pole — b/w "Twitch For Sam Surfer."

There are other (not free) 'Phantom 45s' as well.
  • Exclusive: Five Free Songs From Sierra Leone’s Refugee All-Stars

Link to Soundcloud for DL. Note genre tag!

We saw these guys at a festival a few years ago. My wife spent her Peace Corps time in S.L., back before it was destroyed...
  • Thanks Doofy - they're playing a free show here this summer, so that two for one album deal is awful tempting.
  • Thanks Doofy, downloading as I type

Free/NYOP album on Noisetrade. This blog describes them as being to folk what Arcade Fire is to indie rock.

The New York Chapter by Freddy Fuego Free at Bandcamp
An engaging blend of hip-hop, jazz, rock, reggae, latin, and classical music, this album crosses genre boundaries and defies contemporary musical stereotypes to create what this upcoming artist describes as “a soundtrack to New York City.” Be sure to check out this first effort by one of New York City’s most original and talented underground musicians.

Some great free African music from the VMBG label on Bandcamp. Not all are free but so far I have discovered a couple and both are worth the download

  • Some absolutely amazing stuff there, including some of my favorite rap and desert rock. Has that always been free? I'm feeling a little guilty, and I usually have no issues at all with free by artist/label design.
  • i'm gonna grab a cup of coffee sometime soon and go thru this entire thread. in the meantime, i'll note that another message-board i used to contribute to and now just mostly read-- ilm -- has a thread dedicated to this topic that might be of interest to you. it's called "free/'name your price' bandcamp album compendum." lots of potentially interesting stuff there, too.
  • Free Nneka and K'Naan? Sweet. Thanks, Greg!

  • Also a Miriam Makeba, btw...

Free at Amazon UK, some great stuff on this
  • Thanks Lowlife -downloading now, plus a free track from Dexys too at Amazon UK. Now that dates me!!
  • I saw them live at the Old Vic in London on the Projected Passion Review, one of the best gigs ever. Of the tracks I have heard could be a great new album

I've just downloaded from emusic, still on first track. Yes, I too saw them live and again one of the best gigs I've been too. So far it is good, Kevin Rowlands hasn't lost his voice, unlike some of the 'knights' from Monday evening's Jubilee Concert!
  • It was terrible, had to leave the room when Annie Lennox came on, she does seem to be on everybodies list when these type of shows are on. The only exception was Stevie Wonder, brilliant as always

Have we seen this before, maybe on an old Ubuweb thread? At any rate, via @destinationout, on @ubuweb:
