I think I will grab a few tracks from Mostly Other People Do the Killing.
Do you have any suggestions ?
I'd just grab three or so from Shamokin!!!, picked based on how the samples sound to you (the first three would do fine imo) - the playing is strong throughout. If you happen to be familiar with the jazz classic "Moanin" (the Bobby Timmons tune performed by Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers), then grab the cover (track 7) on their debut, which is a pretty hilarious jazz joke that makes me laugh every time I listen to it (but don't if you don't know the original well, might not be as funny).
Fans of experimental music will probably like grabbing the ihatemusic 2009 compilation, from members of the ihatemusic forum, heavily oriented towards experimental music and other culture. See this thread for more about it.
I'm into Steve Forbert - have been for years. I never understood why he was called "the next Bob Dylan." He doesn't remind me of The Bob at all. Never has. I like the quirky voice -- hmmm, maybe that's it. Thanks for the link.
>I never understood why he was called "the next Bob Dylan
It probably came from someone that wanted to kill is career. Loudon Wainwright III has a great song about being the next Bob Dylan. It's like a support group, they all get together at Springsteen's place. Etc.
Hhmm he sounds like Dylan Rolling Thunder Revue Era, which could just transfer to some kind of 70's rock? Anyway, thanks for pointing him/this recording out, never come accross him before.
The Free Music Archive has over the past weeks posted a number sections of best of:
Now, in the Albums Section there are two that I really like:
Koonda Holaa: 10 Acres of the Finest Sand
- Straight forward and powerfull swamp rock with inspirations from Woven Hand and Michael Gira (Swans)
Selva de Mar: Olas Invisibles
- String based acustic music with a touch of International, reminds me of Clogs.
Thanks BN. Downloaded both. I downloaded Deano Waco: Deano Meats the Purveyors several months ago and see it on the best list. Great free alt-country from artists normally released on Bloodshot Records.
If you missed getting Neil Young's Archives on eMu for 12 credits (or no credits, as the case might be), you might like to grab Neil Young - Attack of the Bonus Tracks. This is a tree CD set, some of the tracks were on the Archives set. Worth checking out.
Colors is a release by Frames, an experimental collective from Italy started in 2007 by Stefano Roncarolo and Sandro Marinoni.
Stefano Roncarolo: bass, noises
Sandro Marinoni: tenor sax, trombone, keyboards, fx
And if you are a Dylan fan, Here's the Times They Are A'Changin' from the White House. Hope those senators and congressmen were listening.
There is a collection of Pink Floyd - Top Gear Sessions, 67/68. These are supposed to be a upgrade from the (several) versions I already have, but I have not had a chance to listen to them yet.
OMG !
Thank you so much for the Top Gear sessions rec.
These are so amazing and a very important document of the PF Syd Barret era.
What's interesting is that the Umma Gumma tracks is recorded 1 year before the album was released.
I've never heard of these recordings before, so I can't say anything about the sound quality, but I'd say that at least the BBC tracks is as good as you can expect.
- But with this unique material, quality does'nt matter that much.
Thanks for that pointer, BT, I was unfamiliar with Slow, but it sounded pretty good on first listen.
Because I'm posting in this thread, I'll note a couple freebies from Bobby Previte, from his self-released live stuff on bandcamp: "Deep Lake" from the Pan-Atlantic band tour "877-Soul" from a Bump the Renaissance tour
Click around his releases there, there might be a couple others. Wish he was selling the recordings for a little less, I'd buy some. But you can stream them all, afaict, which is cool.
Currently at the Big O, MILES DAVIS - Avery Fisher Hall 1975 (Goody Remaster, 2CD), Live at the Avery Fisher Hall, Newport Jazz Festival, New York City, July 1, 1975. Very good band recording. Soundboard?

I have'nt noticed Sunlir before.
There's one more to the list from Rain Music called Elias.
I´ve already got it and yes, I do like it. There's some really excellent tracks on this.
While I was visiting Phantom Channel, I noticed this one:
Inverz by Slow
- I grabbed it straight away.
- Slow has got two great ambient albums out at Resting Bell.

Stefano Roncarolo & Sandro Marinoni - Mirage [WM104] (February 16.2010)
- It is as if this duo can't do anything less than brilliant these days.
Btw: Marinoni is also playing on La Differanza by SADO posted by Bad Thoughts at the "What are you listening to right now?" thread.
80 min. DJ mix by Autechre available for another week or so.
Thank you VERY much !
Milhaven's selftitled is indeed extraordinary brilliant.
Their two other releases:
Milhaven - I.M. Wagner EP [12rec.035] (November 2, 2006)
milhaven - bars closing down [12rec.014] (February 4, 2005)
Are also brilliant, - a bit more rough in the production but performed with the same sparkling intensity as the S/T
- It's so immensly pleasing to be reminded about what love of music is all about.
edit:
Clean Room from Wagner EP: WOW !
