So I logged into Bandcamp this evening and noticed that all my Danger Mouse purchases from the other day are no longer included in my 'collection'. The original link poster in this thread now goes to a page that simply says "No tracks here... logon to add some". Can I assume my experience with the vanished Danger Mouse albums isn't unique? Wonder if I just paid someone who isn't related to Danger Mouse for some illegally uploaded music.
Don't know why artists are doing this in February - Steve Coleman of M-Base is giving away 18 albums.
The list:
Motherland Pulse (1985)
On The Edge Of Tomorrow (1986)
World Expansion (1986)
Sine Die (1987)
Rhythm People: The Resurrection Of Creative Black Civilization (1988)
Cipher Syntax (1988)
Rhythm In Mind (1991)
Black Science (1991)
Anatomy Of A Groove (1991)
Drop Kick (1992)
The Tao Of Mad Phat (1993)
Transmigration (1993)
Def Trance Beat (1994)
A Tale of 3 Cities (1995)
The Sign And The Seal (1997)
Genesis (1998)
The Ascension To Light (2001)
Alternate Dimension Series I (2002)
I enjoyed reading Steve Coleman's thoughtfulness about giving away music, rare in our capitalistic society and all, but he doesn't believe in giving away audio quality. Those dls are all 128's.
Concord Records is giving away a free sampler - well...for your email address.
It's their Black History month sampler, with:
Isaac Hayes Hung Up On My Baby (6:19)
Dianne Reeves & Sean Jones I Want You (4:57)
The Dramatics Get Up And Get Down (3:12)
James Booker All Around The World (3:36)
Allen Toussaint Certain Girl Medley: A Certain Girl/Mother-in-Law/Fortune Teller/Working In The Coal Mine (3:15)
Kris Bowers & Chris Turner WonderLove (6:45)
Roberto Fonseca 80?s (6:26)
The Miles Davis Quintet If I Were A Bell (8:10)
Harvey Mason Chameleon (6:59)
Side Effect Keep That Same Old Feeling (7:01)
Booker T., Poncho Sanchez & Sheila E. 66 Impala (3:55)
George Duke Missing You (5:45)
24-Carat Black Ghetto: Misfortunes Wealth (3:43)
For fear of unwittingly condoning more piracy, I am going to be a little evasive on this one. A rock-hip-hop hybrid, named after a primate, has its albums NYOP at Bandcamp.
"I've just made the first Petrels album - Haeligwielle - free to download until the end of March over on the Petrels bandcamp site. Centered around the work that Victorian diver, William Walker, did in single-handedly re-strengthening the foundations of Winchester Cathedral in order to stop it from sinking into the ground, the album was initially released as a short run on Tartaruga Records in 2011 before being re-issued by Denovali in 2012. If you haven't heard it yet, now's your chance."

Birds of a Feather 5?-?6 by Simon Whetham and Broken Chip
I'll be very disappointed if someone is uploading copyrighted material to make a few bucks before it gets taken down.

I did download a couple things (for free) from the new act, though, just in case it is legit. If it isn't I'll delete the files.

What, the Monkeez have their albums on Bandcamp!? They're more pop than hip-hop, though...

Glad I downloaded them when they were free and just didn't unzip them pending figuring out if it was legit.

Petrels @ Emusers
My two cents: Get it, just get it !
